Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

I found that nauseating too. It's a glib management speak cliche that they've issued without any thought. It makes them look stupid.

Do they really need to 'learn' that making up false allegations about fans carrying knuckledusters and knives is unprofessional?

Is the fact that they got easily caught out lying going to be one of those 'lessons learned'?

If these are aspects of policing that they are still learning, you wonder why they were ever appointed for the job in the first place. There must be more intelligent, experienced and wise candidates for this work.

If they are still 'learning' the basics, God help the people of Sussex.

You know perfectly well, but I'll spell it out for you. It's because Manchester United probably (I can't prove it) has a bigger proportion of so-called supporters who live nowhere near the club's ground, but who would rather bathe in reflected glory than support their own local side, than any other club in Britain. If someone in France supports Palace, it's because he has a tradition of supporting them for good family or historical reasons.

Thanks JRW2, you're absolutely right and I couldn't have put it better myself, so I won't try.

Reading the article has me thinking the Sussex Police have an attitude similar to West Midlands and South Yorkshire. This nonsense about complaints have to come from individuals rather than "pressure groups" is a total cop-out. CPST, like all supporters trusts, are recognised representatives of supporters.

There may come a time when, sadly, Palace supporters may have to boycott the AMEX unless a serious dialog between the CPST/Palace Supporters groups and the Sussex Police.

it's a group of people trying to protect themselves. most such individuals aren't objective when their own actions are being seriously called into question. but i imagine the handling of the game -- and the complaints -- are being carefully monitored by the wider police force at large.

It's the IOPC that are saying that, not Sussex Police. Perhaps the solicitors employed by CPST should have checked the procedures for complaints in advance of submitting it?

If a complaint is recorded by Sussex police and they think there is a case then they have to refer it to the IOPC.

Perhaps you should check what your facts before submitting another pointless post

I can not show the solicitors name on this advert just in case there is some legal connection. But the group of Palace supporters had legal advice to follow through with this complaint. Surely it was on their solicitors advice, ( who know the law ) that they had a case against the Police and as it state here the Police are legally required to contact the IOPC as there is a complaint against them.

CIVIL ACTIONS AGAINST THE POLICE

A formal apology
Disciplinary action against the officer(s) involved
Compensation for your mistreatment.
You do not have to accept poor police conduct, you have legal rights that we can pursue for you.

This process can be challenging and emotionally demanding however our experienced and dedicated Actions Against the Police Team have specialist knowledge in this area. We will represent you from the initial complaint to an appeal to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), previously known as the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

We represent clients throughout England & Wales in a wide variety of police conduct cases. Some are instances of minor conduct issues however others are serious failings and misconduct issues that have resulted in officers being sent to prison and dismissed.

Our solicitors have specialist knowledge in dealing with actions against the police and will be able to assess the best way to progress your case. The action can be split in to two parts. The first part is the police complaint and the second is the civil action against the police. The process will be decided upon your instructions and what your desired outcome is.

The Police Complaint

The police complaint process can be quite complex thus it is beneficial to instruct a specialist solicitor on police conduct. Please note changes are being made to the police complaints system through the Policing and Crime Act 2017.

The purpose of the complaint is to have the particular officer investigated for the conduct complained of. The complaint must be directed to the police force you are complaining about. The force will then allocate your complaint to an officer or to the professional standards department to investigate your complaint. The complaint can be dealt with in two ways;

Local Resolution

This should only be used for less serious complaints. The following actions could be taken;

Explanation given
Apology
Force policy could be changed
A meeting could be arranged with the person you are complaining about
Local Investigation

This should be used in circumstances when a complaint needs to be investigated thoroughly and would be used for more serious complaints. The investigation should be conducted with the fact the investigation report could be used for criminal proceedings or disciplinary proceedings against the officer complained about. Under the complaints procedure, there are no set time scales however the police force should keep you informed every 28 days.

The purpose of the investigation is to gather all of the evidence available and assess the officers or force conduct in line with the standards of professional behaviour. If the officers’ conduct has fallen below the standards required of him/her then the following may apply;

Referral to the criminal prosecution service
Management advice
Written warnings
Dismissal
local management action (re-training/verbal warning/issue of improvement notice/change of duty)
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the investigation you are given 28 days to appeal the decision.

The Civil Action Against ThePolice

The civil action against the police is conducted with the sole purpose in obtaining damages (compensation) for mistreatment and an admission of liability. Actions against the police are in most circumstances highly defended thus we strongly advise you to instruct an experienced legal team such as ourselves.

Press Releases

Some of our cases have made the press due to the public interest in the work we do on police complaints. Please click on the link below to see our most recent news story –

Time Limits

Initial complaints need to be made to the relevant police force within one year of the incident. A claim for personal injury damages needs to made within three years of the incident. Other aspects of your claim such as matters arising under the Human Rights Act must be made within one year and for discrimination complaints, a claim must be made within six months of the incident. Other areas such as malicious prosecution, false imprisonment and misfeasance in public office, a claim must be made within six years.

Role of the Independent Office for Police Conduct (“IOPC”)

The police complaint should always start at the relevant police force however the police force must refer the following to the IOPC;

Death or serious injury
Serious assault
Sexual offence
Serious corruption
Criminal offence or behaviour
The IOPC will then decide how the investigation will be conducted whether they will direct the police force to conduct a local investigation or whether the IOPC will manage/supervise the investigation or whether the IOPC will conduct an independent investigation.

On the matter of boycotting the Amex I should have thought that the fact that it is the weed home ground was reason enough in itself. Unofortunately if you want to play football with a pig, the pig loves it and you get covered in s***. That's life.
