If you taste the same meat, fruit and veg or ready prepared products from Waitrose down to Aldi and Lidl I promise you that there you get better products the more you pay, with a few exceptions here and there. This really applies to fresh food, although if you look in the tinned sections of Sainsbury’s and Waitrose some of their tinned veg is on a different level. Put it this way. If you go and pay loads of money on a meal out, you’re going to notice if the stuff has been bought on the cheap. You can eat well with good tasting food on the cheap. You just need to know how, and lots of British people are clueless on this. Edited by Rudi Hedman (30 Apr 2018 1.34pm)

Edited by Rudi Hedman (30 Apr 2018 1.34pm) When you say 'down' to Aldi and Lidl, although I've never shopped in either, I've heard many people say that their meat, veg and particularly wines are all very good. It's the same old thing - snobbery is why certain people would shop at Waitrose and M&S, and not be seen in Aldi or Lidl. When we were brassic many years ago, my ex-wife (Mrs Bucket) would take Sainsbury's bags to Netto's so that the neighbours wouldn't see where she'd been.

I've Of The 4 main supoermarkets, Certain things are better from all places. Morrissons good for buchered stuff, Tesco good for pre-Packaged stuff, Sainsburys Veg and Asda ummm, is a bit cheaper ?! Aldi And Lidl have a different business model, So it's difficult to compare.Used to be based on buying short Date items to Pass on discounts that way, but they seem to sell different value lines now, and is more about cheaper outfitting and marketing, and getting as much footfall as possible.

Trust me, the fresh produce in Aldi and Lidl is nowhere near as good as Sainsburys, Waitrose or M&S, and do you not think that if it was, the British supermarkets would’ve found it already? (Yes I know about limited product range lowering costs but fresh produce has a supply cost and margin on top and that’s pretty much that Like I said, if it was, restaurants would be shopping there, they’d all be making a fortune instantly and a restaurant would never go out of business. Market positioning does exist and always will, as will the ranging quality of fresh produce.

Shopping at ASDA Swanley is such a grim experience given evident large % of feckless, obese shoppers roaming around with the additional feature of bladdered, chain smoking locals frequenting adjoining grim budget land high street. No chance of buying a postcard given that it become a mecca area for the feral..

I’ve eaten all of it, including all you’ve mentioned and I disagree. People thinking that the same food from a cheaper place is just as good are kidding themselves. On the Morrisons butchers counter, which I’ve eaten from, the beef is bright red. It should be a deeper more purple red colour so before you’ve even eaten it it isn’t a match to pricier meat.

I get the points Rudi is making. If you want better fresh produce, go to a butchers, bakers and greengrocers. And the point I wanted to draw attention to was cheaper own products. I think I can taste the difference between Asda- Sainsburys -Waitrose. However, I have worked on a pizza production line 20 years ago. The same pizzas were being made on one belt. Every 15 minutes the line was stopped to change the packaging. These included 'basic', 'gourmet' and 'taste the difference' Supermarkets use bulk buying-power and charge what they can get away with

I actually like the mid range ones rather than the taste the difference ones. Pizzas are supposed to be a simple snack of dough, tomato and cheese and not complicated with some of the taste the difference toppings anyway. I’ll go for pepperoni but not much else. Maybe onion or mushrooms if someone else has provided it.
