The hectic Christmas schedule is, I believe, untouched by the proposed winter break.

So why would a 2 week break in late Jan/early Feb be particularly beneficial?

Doesn't seem long enough, players will need to retain high fitness, we already have 2 weeks between matches for international breaks.

And probably information to tell them rests are needed. How many sports are their where pros go full pelt like they do for 9 months with 6 weeks training beforehand? Don’t say tennis because they’re sitting out tournaments when they can and there are gaps anyway.

My understanding is that the way it will work is that there is no weekend without football on and teams will take it in turn over a 3-4 week window in late Jan/Feb to take 2 clear weekends off. This way TV companies still get games every weekend.

The worry in this scenario is that they won't announce which teams will be off for which weeks until after New Year.

In terms of holiday prices I can't see it having much impact as they are largely determined by school holidays anyway. Even less so if the whole league isn't off at the same time.

Quite. But problem is the PL wants to maximise TV revenue, which means as few weekends off as possible and as many games on as possible. Hence this stupid staggered plan. I just hope they think of the fans who go to the games for once and have each team's break decided at the start of the season like you said.
