For a start that was when he was West Brom manager, following a win against Bolton, and my view is that Hodgson makes a bit of a fool of himself. Ivan Gaskell wants to ask him about the refereeing decisions, but without leading the interview, hence the general question. There was no justification for that intemperate response. Roy's come close to this type of behaviour in a couple of interviews since he's been with us. Being able to deal with questions from the media politely and calmly is part of his job, but if with age he's turning into an irascible old git, perhaps someone else from the management team should do the post-match interviews. I agree. He has gone down in my estimation. No need for his 'grumpy old git' response to a reasonable question. But that was some time ago and maybe he has matured since then!

Fair enough, thanks for the tip. I think I had probably considered that when 'wondering'.

What? Every manager lets their foul mood show every once in a while when they've lost or been on the end of unjust decisions, and I think Roy comes across as one of the most polite and professional managers with the press. Yes totally agree.

He’s allowed to be miffed off if a single incident has cost his team the game. If as he says it was a single incident, then the reporter should be more forthright with his questioning instead of trying to be tricky about it.

The managers are dragged from pitch side to in front of a camera and are then expected to conduct themselves as if they are somehow removed from the emotion of the previous 90 minutes. I imagine the adrenalin is still coursing through the veins when an injustice is felt, or if there is a last-minute decision/goal that costs you the game. These days Roy seems a lot calmer and even when we've been wronged he rarely shows signs of losing his cool. Imagine having Mourinho the toddler as your manager.

For starters, you don't survive in the top flight of professional football without being tough, and having a bit of fight and grit in your personality, so although Roy generally comes across as a gent there is obviously more to him than that. Yes, it must be hard on occasions to have to face the press immediately after a game and to calmly talk about decisions that have gone against you. But, that is part of the deal, and if you are happy to go on TV/radio and freely chat about an impressive victory for your side you have to be man enough to do the same when things have gone against you and handle it with dignity. On occasions interviewers can ask inane questions, but, putting that aside, I think managers sometimes behave as if the interviewer is being personal and operating on their own agenda, rather than asking questions to elicit the opinion of the manager so that the fans/public get an idea of their take on the matter - in other words the interviewer is acting as a conduit between the manager and fans.
