What about Leighton Rees and that sneer as he let go of the dart, attributed to his Welsh ancestry as the Welsh were the archers at the time of Agincourt according to historian Waddell. I thought it was longbows what done it for Henry V - but hey ho. I always had a strange fascination for Dave Whitcombe, I'm not normally gay but he brought out something in me which very few men have done - I think it was his glasses that made me turn a bit. Check the link and you might understand, although this could be a dangerous game to play.

Leighton Rees was mentioned in a post. He was knows as 'The Cobra' because of his throwing style.Bristow,Rees and Jocky Wilson have all died in their 60s which is not old these days.I am 66 this year ! Edited by Willo (06 Apr 2018 2.34pm)

I'd forgotten that you are only allowed to have an opinion these days if it the 'right' one or related to a religious belief in which case it's a real headache for the snowflakes. You certainly aren't allowed to have one if your employer thinks it damages their image via social media loons and therefore potentially affect their profits.

I pretty sure that the phrase "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" goes back a few centuries actually. You can have an opinion, but if it's a toxic and/or moronic thing to say (and most things regarding blaming the victims of child abuse is) it's best to keep it to yourself. But if you don't and there are consequences, tough s***.

OK, but I'm not sure he actually did blame them. That would be illogical. There is good sense in not saying dumb things but if we held everyone to that standard, then no one would have a job. His 'crime' was to make it public, which was insensitive but I'd still defend his right to say it. The slippery slope and all that.

He inferred that they should sort it out themselves, which is pretty much blaming them for going public/going to the police. I won't put the quote on here as there's no need to drag it up again now that he's dead. Besides all that - Sky having a tribute to him, at the darts, isn't even hypocritical.

You didn't keep that to yourself. And while I disagree with you I don't agree that you should censor yourself or be punished for the viewpoint. Bristow was encouraging a masculine answer to a problem....it was cackhanded, uncharitable and basic...and of course lots of people don't want to hear it.....they want to just hear emasculated males and pretend that all males think that way. However, it was just a view and to lose your job is severe. Criticism should have been enough.

Well I'd have respected SKY more if they had asked him to apologise to anyone who was offended and leave it at that. Do employers expect to control the opinions of their staff outside of the working environment, on social media for example? Just consider how scary a concept that is when taken to its ultimate conclusion. A contract that demands the censorship of opinion cannot be a fair contract in my view.
