She loved a bit of sport. She set up the Mandela United Football Club (google it), which is probably why Nelson had nothing to do with her when he got out.

If you think Palace have a lot of injuries, you should see what was inflicted by Winnie Mandela's Football Team.

Another Mugabe or Amin, in all but name and power. Thank fck Nelson kept a great distance between him and her.

Her cremation comes about 30 years too late

Her main crimes seem to be against her own people. I have heard several tributes and they all gloss over the reign of terror she exerted over Soweto. She was no Rosa Parks.

The propaganda of the ANC portrayed her as some sort of hero fighting for justice for her husband and the black masses but she was a person of hatred who turned to violence and lived off her husband's name.

Here is a person who put plastic bags over the heads of enemies and personally whipped them. The 'Mugger of the nation' as she was named by some.

The Soweto uprising was a series of demonstrations and protests led by black school children in South Africa that began on the morning of 16 June 1976.

176 school children were murdered by the police on that day in Soweto, now a national holiday in South Africa, just turned up and wiped them out.

This was a catalyst for change with outrage both in and outside South Africa although it took a long 14 years more.

Kudos to her, not many women have their own football team. Gave out 'necklaces' too.

I refuse to believe there are that many people out there that can't spell. Too f**king lazy, that's what I think.

"The years of imprisonment hardened me... I no longer have the emotion of fear... There is no longer anything I can fear. There is nothing the government has not done to me. There isn't any pain I haven't known."

The state treated her brutally for no more than being Mandela's wife.

Imprisonment torture and even exile.

In 27 years she never wavered in support of her husband and the cause of freedom from apartheid, in fact would it have happened at all except for her, he was out of the way in jail.

Perhaps that's why they give her this title, her energy activism even revolution a driving force for freedom from apartheid.

You need to go to Specsavers - utter rubbish!

"with our boxes of matches and our necklaces we shall liberate this country" - translation: if you don't agree with me we'll burn you. All the people whose deaths she was involved in were black, just not those she agreed with.

Apartheid was an evil regime, rightly consigned to the past, but compare her spite and violence with the spirit of reconciliation shown by her ex-husband, and she was an embarrassment to his memory. I dread to think what would have happened had she been running the show!

It was her husband, Desmond Tutu and Fw de Klerk that brought an end to apartheid. Her power was based on people fearing what she could do them, and sometimes did.

I'm sure you say these things just for a reaction.

She was a brutal murdering loon who was not worthy of her husband or to breath air.
How is it going in South Africa post Apartheid by the way?

It is quite wrong to think of Mrs Mandela as a political person, an armchair activist texting on facebook or twitter, although she was the country's first black social worker and a mum of 2.

She was a freedom fighter, a revolutionary who was at the heart of the anti-apartheid struggle - a brutal racist regime, a police state where they dispensed with non-whites by torture and execution as an untermensch.

Why not pop in to Soweto and murder a few school-children, that's what actually happened, never mind 'necklacing'.

While her husband and other ANC leaders served long jail terms Mrs Mandela was the anti-apartheid movement, for nearly 30 years.

It was her calling, her life, probably her experience of torture made her hate her oppressors, gave her the fire to fight openly despite the risks.

Nelson Mandela had it handed on a plate, he was equal to the task of conciliation but in the eyes of Winnie, that was not enough justice for her people.

She said that it came to a point where they could not do any more to her, she broke her banning order and returned to fight on and to win, how totally improbable that must have seemed.

No wonder she is 'Mother of the Nation', I think South Africans rightly award her that title.

Tired old white supremacists still trying to air-brush inconvenient history away, even ambivalent to apartheid.

It is deleted - I guess she is just an attention-seeker and will say anything ?
