Maybe this happened during the Ashes as well (clutching at straws?). I have no idea what has been said between the two teams but why is it that, when the Aussies "sledge" England they describe it as banter. When SA do it to them it is called "vile abuse"

They will not be trusted for many years to come.

I suppose that it's no surprise that the Australian cricket team are a bunch of cheating barstewards when their society started life as a British offshore prison. ( flameproof hat on ) That's a bit of a generalisation isn't it ? I'm sure the whole team are not cheating ex-con barstewards. If I were Australian I might take exception to this.

Between the establishment of the first penal colony at Botany Bay in 1788 and the cessation of transportation in 1868 about 162,000 convicts were transported to Australia. In 1868 the immigrant population of Australia was about one million. In 2012 alone 190,000 immigrants settled in Australia. The idea that Australia as a nation is descended from convicts is as baseless as it is prejudiced.

( flameproof hat on ) A few things I see wrong with this whole saga and cricket in general. 1. This has been going on a long time, with most teams being caught out in the past. A quick search on the internet provided a few examples [Link] However this does not condone what they have done and in my opinion should be axed as Cap and VC forever and stood down for the remaining test. That being said the ICC need to take a far harsher view of ball tampering and impose stronger penalties rather than just fines. Ban the Cheats whatever their nationality! The last ashes series and the current SA tour has been more of a soap opera than proper test match cricket. He said this, he said that, who gives a flying F#$%. Get on with it like Lillee, Botham, Ponting and Flintoff did. Yes they all sledged back then, but they didn't carry on and involve the media nor fill out hurt feelings reports like todays cricketers. It did seem to be more of a gentlemens game then and not this handbags at ten paces rubbish.

2. This faux outrage is laughable, but understandable.
The Australians are the leaders in faux outrage. Darren Lehman has been squealing to the press about how nasty the South African spectators have been to his poor boys and it's just not cricket. This is the same Darren Lehman that a few years ago urged all Australian spectators to be as horrible to Stuart Broad as they could so that they could send him home crying. The Aussies were outraged that Broad nicked the ball and didn't walk and was given not out. This was only a few years after that infamous Sydney test when Andrew Symonds nicked a ball from Harbhajan Singh to the keeper and everyone in the ground heard it except the umpire. I was actually at that game and even I heard the nick. Originally posted by west coast eagle
3. You can't tell me the coach Darren Lehmann wasn't in on this. A full third party investigation into the whole saga is warranted. If he was in on it then he should be sacked. If he didn't know anything about it then the team obviously don't take any notice of his tactical advice so he should still be sacked. Jason Gillespie is waiting in the wings

They seem to think its fine to 'sledge' other sides yet when the South Africans do it to them its 'vile abuse'. Don't give it out if you cant take it. This has made the said individuals look right prats. Edited by Tom-the-eagle (26 Mar 2018 8.28am)

No, Athers did not change the ball by tampering and no action was taken. He did carry dirt in his pocket, he said for drying his hands, and was fined for not disclosing it, but this affair is totally different. ball polishing for example using saliva to shine the ball a little longer, has always been present. Ball tampering is where the ball is actually physically changing its characteristics by the action. And in such an obvious way whatever were they thinking.
