2024

St Patrick was effectively an asylum seeker. A single undocumented male, of military age, and of diverse religious faith to the mainstream.

Last year the Paddys Day Parade was almost void of any references to the old man and the old faith. It was more like Sadiq Khan's Notting Hill Carnival meets the Eurovision Song contest.

and now this ?

....i am feeling like i am going to faint.

Having said that I hope all our Irish contributors have a grand weekend.

I saw that s***e this morning as well. I think the BBC needs to understand that St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, not the whole bloody United Kingdom.

You need to post this again but on the bbc thread. We'll said.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

as always. Its complex. Patrick was Welsh......and had been slave trafficked to ireland. Although some say he had Roman connections ( or a Latin education) hence his Patrician name.

Because his Christianity was at variance with Rome, the Prods in Ulster have claimed him as one of their own. A Prod. About a thousand years BEFORE the Prod reformation. Catholics can scoff and laugh....but reflect that Patrick never got Beatified by the Vatican.....even after John Paul II went nuts and was beatifying the coffee lady at the tourist shop.

and regarding the comment above, Patrick is buried in British soil, north of the NI border. Although it was firmly irish soil when he went into the ground. And the future ? yet again the whole Brexit debate may continue to imperil the provenance of said soil. It could become the Bog from Brussels.

And if we feel threatened by the advent of Islam ? then spare a thought for the blithe disregard Patrick & co had for the Druids.

Bloody Christians, coming over here and taking all our chastity & unemployed hermitage-cells.

Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland. But it looks like they snuk back in.

Blimey I posted that 6 years ago. Still my point is valid the Irish don't feel the need to celebrate St George's day.
