I don't actually think it'll be that bad on the roads tomorrow as the snow isn't forecast to start until after sunrise, meaning most of it will be kept clear by traffic for the journey up. The trouble will be if there's a breakdown or accident on top of the snow that's due.

Optimistic as ever

I've just had a difficult conversation with my Palace mad 21 year old who's been looking forward (like me) to driving to Huddersfield tomorrow, I said I'd take him for a birthday treat. I've decided to cancel because the forecast looks so rubbish. Am I being pathetic?

It's his birthday. You have to take him and if that means you're stranded in a pub somewhere for the weekend then even better

the dignified don't even enter in the game

What madness is this? It's his 21st. He's your son. Even if the game is called off, or your stuck in traffic for the weekend, it's not important - you'll be having quality father and son time.

Doesn't sound great, most of these roads surround Huddersfield.

"Drivers have been advised to avoid some roads including parts of the M62 (junctions 21 to 25), A66 and A628, the M1 between Rotherham and Garforth, the M606 near Bradford and the M621 near Leeds."

I don't think it'll be that bad. People are just worried because of the snow we had a few weeks ago. That was about 4 days of heavy snow, and we've got a spell of heavy snow forecast early tomorrow, then a few light dumpings throughout the day.

Can't see it being called off, or there being massive travel problems either

At the moment it is dry, but we have forecasts for sleet from mid evening turning in to snow showers through the early hours. My company carry out gritting work so I can assure you that forecasts are very inaccurate regarding snowfall (it could be only a dusting or could be 4 or 5 inches)!

I will keep an eye on the weather through the evening and tomorrow morning (I'm normally up from 6) and post any updates on how the weather is looking.
