Can't understand why Shelvey isn't in there.

Horrible player. Wouldn't want him anywhere near the England team.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Same - clearly talented but he just doesn't give a s***, and is always likely to lose his head. Also think a personality like that can be hugely damaging to the squad culture.

What squad culture? The usual lethargic, prima Donna culture ?

His attitude has improved a lot under Benitez and he has been outstanding at club level this season. Dictated the midfield in a lot of games and has as a good a passing range as anyone in that squad bar Wilshere. How is Livermore in ahead of him?

Because he would keep getting sent off for doing stupid things.

So you make it better by including disruptive players?

And yet he still has 2 red cards in a little over 20 appearances this season. Outstanding is a huge stretch as well; he's been dropped at numerous points and has a contribution of 0 goals, 2 assists.

How about Leon Bailey? Would you have selected him? Anyone who knows a little bit about the German league knows he's rocking it there. Southgate says he's on their mind but apparently either FIFA hasn't given the clear or they already have the squad formed for the World Cup and will only consider him for the next qualifiers.

If he England squad will probably look like this:

Hart (Butland, Pickford/Pope)
Dier (P. Jones), Stones (Mawson), Maguire(Tarkowski)
Walker (Trippier), Henderson (Livermore), Wilshire (Ox/Lallana), Bertrand (Young/Rose)
Sterling (Lingard), D. Alli (Rashford)
H. Kane (Vardy)

would you have made room for Leon Bailey? He can play behind the striker slightly to the left (like Alli or Rashford) or on the left wing.

Also, I'd have wanted Theo Walcott and Michail Antonio to be in. Walcott has gotten playing time lately, this season he has hit 2 goals and 2 assists in the PL and 1 assists against FC Koln in 800 minutes. A lot moe goals in the Europa League, but let's not count the ones against weaker opponents. Last year he had 17 goals and 2 assists in 2300 minutes. This is a player who should go to the World Cup. Honestly, I'd play Dele Alli central midfielder instead and let Wilshire and Lallana stay at home, but I'd get Walcott in the squad to battle it out with Sterling, Lingard and Rashford for a starting position.

Michail Antonio...harder to fit in, especially with this 3 man defense that Southgate is using. But I'd take him ahead of Trippier. Taht's just me, but Trippier has started well against Real Madrid, but recently has had a bit of a downful. Not that good positionwise at offside traps (not that Antonio would be any better, but he still is a more massive presence). Tough choice though really.

But anyway, Southgate doesn't even consider Walcott and Antonio so my wishes count for exactly 0.

Also, Smalling and Cahill seem pretty capable to me. Central defenders make mistakes, it happens, but they have many solid matches as well. They don't even make it ahead of Joe Gomez.

Southgate's backups for the ones above are: Joe Gomez (though not playing for Liverpool), Lewis Cook, Delph, RLC, Welbeck, some of them in the squad for the friendly matches as we speak.

The Bailey stuff is all rumoured at the moment - until he's confirmed as eligible, and actually says he wants to play, it's all hypothetical. Having said that, if he does want in, it's a bit of a no-brainer. Good friends with Sterling as well apparently, so hopefully there's some legs to it. Suspect WC 18 will come too soon for him though.

Walcott has shown he isn't up to it at the top level over a 10 year spell now - decent player, nothing more. He couldn't even get in the Arsenal team, so no way he would be competing with Rashford, Lingard and Sterling - imagine Walcott trying to displace them at City/United... No chance.

Antonio over Trippier would just be bizarre. Comparing them as right backs is not even close.

This is an interesting read, it could explain why Wilf and others end up slipping through England's net

And this is why Wilshere should never be considered for a tournament squad...he's INJURY PRONE. Always has been...always will be. Next.
