Maybe people could stop taking them to court when they have exhausted all treatments, and when every medical expert has also agreed with the decision.

There has been several cases recently where parents of children have dragged the NHS through every court possible costing I don't know how many millions. There's one in Liverpool at the moment, there was one in South London and another at GOSH in the last few months alone.

Optimistic as ever

Been thinking the same thing. I can't back this with up with figures but I expect someone will correct me. I would like to know the percentage of the population that does not pay tax / NI. I suspect that with a growing pensioner base and increased tax thresholds this will be rising. In other words fewer people are funding the NHS (including me).

Just because you paid tax for many years that shouldn't mean that you pay nothing for healthcare especially as you get older you will likely need it more. Perhaps all adults should pay something maybe £500 pa if you all ready pay taxes then you've paid. Of course there would be exceptions and I have no idea how much this would raise. The NHS should be free at point of use but I do think people should pay something annually. I haven't paid tax legally in 5 years not all pensioners are poor.

No doubt people will be outraged but either we increase the number of people paying or we raise the tax on the rest. During my working life I paid 40% most of the time now I pay nothing I would be happy to pay a flat fee if others did.

So how much did you use the NHS,during the 40years of paying tax.
Sorry can't agree with you on that, maybe make some of the f***ers who never pay into it....pay some.

always a Norwood boy, where ever I live.

My wife is a nurse and she tells me that one of the biggest causes of wastage in the NHS is all the form filling and reporting that doctors and nurses have to do in order to cover their backsides in case of litigation

Or spend the huge amounts of revenue that we already receive more wisely?

This. Also, making sure that all monies collected for public expenditure are spent on those services without slices being taken out for private profit by the Sercos of this world would be a start.

I was unsure where to put this. Canvassed last night by the local conservative Caterham councillor I asked him what he's offering. Some good projects in the valley and on the hill regarding shopping, parking, pedestrianising the valley and a completely reconfigured precinct and Morrisons. Also plans for Raglan precinct and a car park for shoppers up the other end of the high street although there's no land for it.

Anyway, got onto housing and plans for mini town developments in the Godstone area instead of new houses along Stanstead area that he described as ''Slums of the future.'' Instead of laughing so hard I might have a stroke I just said I don't agree with that road or houses being slums of the future and I'd read his literature when it arrives and declined on a postal vote. He said they were being built too close together so would become slums. Dear God.

That seems like a waste of money trying to cover all the angles.
A tiny % must have a beef which deserves financial remuneration.
That cannot cost the same as all the time spent form filling and along side that the money not spent on more staff which would also come from this saved pot of dough.
Sometimes s@@t just happens
