One good thing, and perhaps the only one for me, about Monday night football is that the trains are running. I travel up from the south coast and every other weekend, Saturday and Sunday, there is "work on the line" and a replacement bus service between Brighton and Three Bridges which usually adds an hour to my journey. Pete move to Holmesdale Road.!!!!!!!!!!

I used to like it when the smell of smoke would waft over the crowd at evening games. There's something about cold night air and cigarette smoke that is magical. Of course, you're not allowed second hand smoke if you're a child any more. They call that 'progress'. Smoking hasn't done me any harm. It's all those wretched stairs that make me breathless. And the emphysema. Edited by OhthisbloodyPC (18 Feb 2018 1.50pm)

I remember, as a boy, the Bring Out Your Dead man would come along the road on his cart, and he'd give you half a crown for each cadaver. As kids we used to raid the old plague pit in South Norwood (corpsing, they used to call it) and sell them. Half a crown would get you admission to The Nest (as it was called back in those days, which was odd because CPFC was officially nick-named the Glaziers) With the change we used to buy bread dipped in gravy, a Jubberlee, a sherbert dip and a bottle of iodine to dress any infected wounds created in the process of the midnight grave robbing. It was a different world back then.
