this thread should be put in the sentimental history section. Sadly, one of these players is completely shot and the other is rapidly losing popularity among fans.

the Prem is ruthless. Lets thank the two boys for some good performances and go and recruit some hungry 21 year olds.

Well they're both current Palace players, so that's an entirely null point.

What 21 year old can you think of who would be an improvement on Cabaye?

'Hungry 21 year olds' sounds great, but it's a complete throwaway of a point - any 21 year old in world football who's at least as good as Cabaye is going to be hot property, and probably cost north of £30m.

It has been evident for a few seasons that Palace are one paced in midfield.
MacArthur, Cabaye,Luka,Puncheon (and for that matter Riedewald or Mutch) - none of them are dynamic or quick.
There has been a reliance on Bolassie and Zaha to carry the game to the opposition at pace which presents a problem in their absence.
Cabaye is a very good footballer but can’t seem to play effectively for more than 60 minutes.
Puncheon has not played well for more than a year.
I hoped that a younger energetic midfielder would be added in the window but this didn’t happen.
Regardless of the division Palace are in next season I think Cabaye will not be there and that Puncheon will have a limited role.

I’m still baffled why punch was dropped back into midfield, he’s always been best as a right winger. He’s way too lightweight for centre mid, no surprise his form has been nowhere near as good as it was.

His name is Chungy and he gets grossly overlooked on here all the time. Agile, nippy, good vision.

The same player that can only pass sideways? Not exactly a great demonstration of vision is it.

One of Pardew's worst mistakes was ruining Puncheon, although his pace had gone he was still better out wide. Never did anything in the middle for us.

Not true. Second half of 2014-15 season was standout in the no 10 position and a big reason we stayed up a second season.

Erm I was referring to Puncheon having never done anything in the middle for us.

Puncheon would still be good out wide even today. He'd be an adequate backup for Townsend. Playing as inverted winger is not as much abou pace as it is about technique ad favourite foot. Look at Robben, he's like 36 or smtg and still rocks it cutting in and scoring at the highest level

Erm woops. Sorry after re-reading, I totally agree with you. Puncheon had some really good games at no.10 and was ruined when pardew decided to make him a defensive midfielder.
