More confusing is why anybody would want Iain Dowie as a public speaker

Come on, give him a break guys. He's an intelligent guy with a love for the club who can remember the good times but I'm sure can also laugh at himself & his mistakes, as you'll find out if you're there.

Dowie's a good bloke who was excellent for the club. Took us up on a remarkable promotion run, took us within minutes of staying up, on a shoestring PL budget. A great motivator, tactically not so much, but hey. Freedman stitched us up far more IMHO and is far more of a rotter in my book. Not only bailing out at the first whiff of a pound note, the negative, slimey way he acted afterwards really stuck in my craw. Didnt he try and take the coaches too? (LL i know, but the others). Now that was one thing, a fat contract is a fat contract, but to grass us up to Ole Sjloskaer? w***er. only back at the club because he failed at management, and was desperate. Far far rather have a couple of pints with Dowie any day of the week.

Forgetting the circumstances of his departure, his poor knowledge of geography and his PowerPoint fixation, Dowie was actually very, very good for us. He took us from the doldrums of the Championship to the playoffs in truly spectacular fashion with the team playing very attractive football. We were also very unlucky to go down the following season after some head-scratching dealings in the transfer market which was probably as much down to Jordan as it was to Dowie. Without doubt, we had his best years. Dowie has maintained a dignified silence about his spat with Jordan (unlike the version we've heard from the Orange One) and although his career amusingly imploded after his departure, I bear him no ill will. Agree with you Cuckers - it was an amazing run to get to the Premier League. And he connected with the crowd - the whole pantomime 'fisting' - great stuff. He, Pulis, Allardyce all did good things for Palace and I bear none of them any ill will. (I still think Holloway is an annoying twerp though!)
You fed me, you bred me, I'll remember your name. |

I think the anti Dowie brigade on here are forgetting the excellent job he did at Charlton.

Next they’ll be lining up Venables to speak at the Business Club Lunch...
George Courtney, the World Cup referee, everyone is looking at him. When will he blow....? |

Ok he thought he was being clever with Jordan in getting out of his deal, but he in no way stitched the club up. Venables, err allegedly, robbed us blind once on the pitch and once in the accounts. Dowie genuinely likes the club, always is positive and when reports or discussing Palace you can tell his heart's in the club. Venables is just an out and out crook.

I think you maybe read a little too much into my quip, but I fully agree that Dowie is but a stormtrooper compared to Darth Venables.

The way some people go on about what Dowie did for us is funny when you think how he sh*t on us when he left. If you were with a bird for 3 years and it ended with her running off with a bloke you hate would you reminisce over how good she was for you or hate her for doing what she did? It's not what you do but how you do it and who you do it with. Dowie is an utter tnuc for what he did!
