I believe I read somewhere that Borussia Dortmund can increase their capacity from 65,000 to 81,000 when they avail of 'Safe Standing'.

I believe its the other way around. 81,360 capacity standing and rail seating and 65,829 for international matches seating only.
The 'Yellow wall' stand of rail seating has a ratio of 1-1.7 and they use a rail every 2 rows.
You can wear 'a veil' but scarves are more usual!

If standing was included in new stand in any way. It would not get planning approval as it would fail Risk assessment

This is what I was saying - when they avail of 'Safe Standing' their capacity increases to 81,000.

I recall the terraces of old which were certainly NOT safe standing ! Supporters could be plumetted down due to surges, either crashing into each other or one of the barriers. And we had all those dastardly 'Crews' congregating en-masse with their 'Bovver boy' mentality.Dark days.

I sent CPFC an email about the main stand redevelopment on 5th Jan. Here is their reply.......

Many thanks for your email.

We will continue to be part of the ongoing discussion within the Premier League regarding safe standing. However, we are not incorporating this into the stadium at this stage.

We will make sure to keep you updated on the plans as they progress.

Kind regards

Would they?
It seem to me that the bigger part of the Holmesdale lower is always standing up anyway. This you would think also is a big point for safe standing to be implemented. It is already there but in seating area's and in the process inconvenient for people who do want to sit.

I love standing myself.

No way it will happen in the new Main Stand, that is the 'money stand' as one poster bluntly calls it on another forum.

The other 3 sides all have the potential though.

Whitehorse would be very easy, as it was a terrace until 1993, so would be a very simple conversion. Added bonus of doing it there is that the family stand could be relocated somewhere else where the kids can see the big screen

Arthur Wait enclosure - incredible acoustics here. But suspect the club would want to keep the side stands as seating as they can charge more for the side on view seats

Holmesdale Lower - logical as it is where the atmosphere is, and the HF stand already. If this is where it does go, the club would have to be sensitive in allowing vast swathes of season ticket holders to move to other stands, as a lot of Holmesdale Lower S/T's would still prefer to sit

As for will it happen - I believe it will, yes.

Shrerwsbury have got a section of it I believe, and there is a fair chance they will be promoted to the Championship soon. When they come up, are the authorities really going to rip it out?

If they can have it, everyone else will want it too.

And haven't Brentford got terracing anyway?

Why would ‘safe standing’ fail a risk assessment? How is it a higher risk than seating.

Because, from August 1994, under the Football Spectators Act 1989 (as amended), clubs in the English Premier League and Championship have been required to provide all-seated accommodation. The 1989 Act applies to England and Wales.

In November 2016, the Government said that all-seater stadiums remained the best means of ensuring the safety and security of fans. In February 2017, the Government said it was “unconvinced” by the case for safe standing:

Every away section is all standing anyway. Think Parish has said somewhere that PL rules stipulate as long as you pay for your seat you dont have to sit in it or something along those lines. Can only be a matter of time surely.

If Parish said that, he doesn't know what he's talking about. If there is a disaster as a result of standing, he's the one who'll be facing the music:

Why do tickets have messages saying persistent standing is not allowed then, and grounds have signs saying it; and some grounds eject people for standing?

Not too sure maybe as a detterent and they cant actually enforce it. Cant say I have seen anyone ejected or being told to sit down at an away game anyway for years. Stewards dont even batter an eyelid.
