Time to also shelve the type of players who are not regularly making even the subs bench. Long term, we need a final 25 who are capable of vying for the top spots in both league and cup with scope to rotate. We're nowhere near that level yet.

Good point. I feel that we lost our depth the summer we signed Benteke for our entire budget, or close to it. We ended up with Fryers in our regular first team squad!!!

The trouble is that the sort of players you are talking about are the sort that will be waiting to see if anyone else comes knocking. So patience is required.

If I was a well respected talented manager who knew my stuff I probably wouldn't have played him in the first place considering we were up against a team that were going to run our midfield ragged. I know I'm clutching at straws here and a lot went wrong and I'm in no way blaming Cabaye. If anything I'm blaming Roy for not doing something sooner. I think in a match where you are 4 down after 16 minutes the "big no-nos" in football should go out the window.

In my opinion, Cabaye is not a slow or lazy player. Anyway, he is twice as fast and hard-working as Bakary Sako.
I'd have played Cabaye, I think anyone would have. But I wouldn't have played both Benteke and Sako.
And it's not that Sako wouldn't want to run more, he just can't do it anymore with his height and weight. Not in an attacking midfielder or side midfielder position. You already had Benteke as a non-moving man up front. Add to that Sako in a game against Arsenal? For me it's either/or.

I think you should have stopped there.

My point exactly, I'm not, what do I know. But even you have to admit Roy was slow to react to what was happening. This is the first time since he statrted I've even considered criticising him but I think it's valid in this case.

Not slow or lazy at all, if you look at my original post I say how much I rate him, but he has been tiring very quickly recently at the very least I would have taken him off sooner, I just think we needed what Jairo could bring to the game more than the flair and creativity that Cabaye brings, not better just different for different games.

He's done. Decent player but has looked knackered / crocked for a few games now - doubt we'll be seeing him again.

The first part of your post is wrong.
In the Summer of 2016 we signed, Benteke,Tomkins,Townsend and Mandanda.
It was part funded by selling Bolasie.

Fryers was signed in 2014 so was there to be selected.

Your second comment patience is required is correct.

You are joking right? (and I love Yohann)
You are joking again aren't you? When you say Bakary can't run! He was played in a front 2 not AM nor side midfielder? Not sure what games you watch to be honest

As I said at the time on the match thread, I think he just stayed down and waited for the stretcher to get Jairo on more quickly than would have happened if he had had to be treated, go off, come back on and then be subbed. So, tactical rather than damage in my view.

I hope so. Remember Kevin de Bruyne the other week went down as if he'd been shot, was carried off on a stretcher surrounded by physios reckoning he'd been all but murdered, the next day was prancing about fine and dandy and the day after that was playing as if nothing had happened.

Either a stretcher does not necessarily imply serious injury or else Kevin de Bruyne is Lazarus.

The BBC Radio London commentator said it looked like his ligaments and he would be f***ed for months but that wasn't by a long way the only thing they said that was bulls***.

Cabaye playing his first game back after injury and Roy keeps him on all game.

Unbelievably naive. Should have protected him and brought on Jairo at 70 min.
