when i saw the thread title i assumed it was a death notice. But, happily she is still with us. another name for a gay man is a 'queen', or an 'Old Queen' - reference the liberace movie before you crucify me.

Court's stated opinions are abhorrent and neanderthalic. If I was Australian I would be embarrassed. The arena should be renamed. That's racist. How do know what Neanderthals thought about Lesbians anyway? Do 3% of your genes get twitchy when you see a picture of Sam Fox? What did she actually say anyway? All sorts of comments about gays, like: "And we know, everybody knows that it is wrong, but they’re after our young ones, that’s what they’re after." "That’s what Hitler did and that’s what communism did, got the minds of the children. And it’s a whole plot in our nation and in the nations of the world to get the minds of the children." Apparently you only become Gay because you have been sexually molested. Shall we say she's 'unreconstructed'. Which does make her an excellent pinata for activists. As a recall LGBT is now LGBTQIA by the way. There was also a + at some point. I am so pleased I am not an A.

I get that some people are uncomfortable with the gay lobby but to be so paranoid about some sort of gay conspiracy is loony. I must confess that the very inclusive and ever increasing list of letters does make me chuckle. They are determined to get the whole alphabet in there.

Leave the woman alone. The arena was named after her because of her tennis achievements. Indisputably great. If you don't agree with her opinions on gays then don't ask her to speak at your events don't read her articles don't watch her on TV. Don't conflate the two. As for BJK keep your nose out of Australian affairs. Edited by Farawayeagle (12 Jan 2018 11.38pm)

Her ideas are nuts but I'm not one for airbrushing history because of what one said or did later.

There's more to it than the present day issues of marriage equality and LGBTQ. In their playing days Margaret Court was not supportive of the WTA and part of the "shamateur" group that played the Grand Slams while "professionals" like King, Casals and on the men's side Laver were kept out. So there is plenty of animosity between the two without adding sexuality into the mix. When the USTA named the National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadow (US Open) the Billie Jean King Center (the main stadium is named for Arthur Ashe), Court was quoted as saying that the honor was not deserved. Whether that is accurate is subject to debate as Court has not repeated it nor will she talk about it. Edited by kenbarr (14 Jan 2018 10.51pm)

Both Court and King deserve the stadiums/centres to be named after them, for their tennis achievements, everything else they want to say i'm not interested in.
