Indeed. I had great pleasure in f***ing them around when they decided they would stop sending me VAT invoices (that I paid for).

Cancelling the direct debit meant they had to send me one in order to get payment. And saved me £1.50 a month in the meantime until I moved network at the end of that contract.

Optimistic as ever

I also managed to spend a sizeable amount as I have noticed in recent years that late December is the best time to book flights abroad.

That and replacing my eight year old plasma with a modern OLED TV

My trick is to pay for anything expensive with my usual credit card then transfer the balance to a Barclaycard as they offer 22 months interest free credit for a fairly nominal fee of 2.9%

Though this comment is donkeys years old, I'd somehow not 'til recently even heard of OLED TVs. I watched the game on a mates TV the other game though as was well impressed. Prices seem to be coming down greatly of late so I might upgrade.. Anyone else got one?

Mine is an LG and footie in 4K is absolutely stunning. I believe that LG make the screens for quite a few other manufacturers too

I have always found accountants to be so fixated with final figures, they lose sight of real life objectives completely.

I disengage, I turn the page.

How big is the TV and what did it cost if you don't mind me asking ? The prices are really coming down. I've been looking at the LG ones as they seem to have the best reviews of them all.. This with 10% off extra seems like a real bargain [Link]

Mine is 65" and I paid £2,500 for it several years ago but like all AV equipment prices have come down since.

The screen that you have linked to seems phenomenal value although you will need a stand or wall mount to go with it

I have to admit, I've never been a big "I've got the new X" sized [Insert insane anogram] plasma, extreme definition, pancake making, mind bending etc TV" type. Mine is 65inch Sony TV, I got from there 3 years ago, never has let me down and from what I know my brother bought a similar one (different brand) elsewhere, the same time for about double the price, and had to replace it last year. Mine's still happily going and has collected a few happy Palace memories along the way too

. Yes, I did in the past get into the same 'time to upgrade my phone every 5 seconds' mindset previously. But nowadays I tend to be more sensible, skip a good few generations and get a decent deal.

I'm not a big TV watcher really but as you say you can't beat a big display for the game. Might go for a 65' option then or possibly 55'. There are 75' options too, but I'll be needing popcorn, extra chairs and a ticketing system if I go too far down that route!

You need to consider how close to the screen you will be sitting as 75" will be too large for small rooms as you would be sitting too close

Yes, I'm thinking 65' max really based on the room size. Possibly smaller, partly due to that for also the contrast in size to the current TV. I guess if I mess up I can always send it back, but I'll try to figure it out priot!

I went from a 44" plasma to the 65" OLED and it did seem odd for the first day or two but it doesn't take long to get used to it

You do need 4K sources to take full advantage of the screen and if you have Sky Q with 4K it defaults to ordinary HD on 4K sports and you have to press the red button to watch in 4K. The contrast is rather like switching the light on in a darkened room
