Ive always rated him, its just unfortunate he is always played as a full back when its clear to all he is a very good central defender.

The mountains are calling & I must go.

Seems we're gonna have the same injury problems with central defenders as the previous one. Hurrah for Kelly - a true professional and we're lucky to have someone like him in our squad!

I'll throw my hat behind him being award a contract extension.

I'd also suggest instead of buying another CB as cover for Kelly and Tomkins we put Michael Phillips on the bench.

Ward will both be fit at some point. Which means TFM could also be used as CB cover.

And let's not forget Sakho should return sometime in the next month or so?

Don't know what Phillips would be like in a real PL game. Let him have a go against the weed and we'll see.

The way the defence has been performing I am not at all sure Ward is able to play up to that level for a first team spot. Thinking of Leicester away and Man City home specifically. We have upped it. A decent squad player now only maybe.

When he's good (normally when playing centre-half) he is very, very good

When he is bad (normally at fullback) he's shocking

May well be getting a good run in the side now alongside JT through necessity, hope he grasps the chance

His rep largely comes from the fact that, with no fit LB for months, MK was forced to play on the wrong side in the wrong position.

Right CB and he's the nuts.

From what I remember, never had a bad game when played in his natural position of centre back.

Great and valuable member of the squad and hope he gets a new contract.

Lets not forget Ward was excellent before he got injured. It will be a nice problem for Roy to have when some return from injury. Lets hope that is sooner rather than later.
Kelly has been a solid squad player for a number of years. When he transferred from Liverpool I thought he had the look of a centre half playing out of position. But what a bonus to have someone who can come in and do a solid job in a number of positions. I was also very impressed with Reidewald the other day against City. Sako has looked a threat every time he has come on. Perhaps our squad is stronger than most would have us believe.

Same people negging our players.... just nothing positive to say...

Wards had a good season period. He kept TFM out the team. Squad player maybe but one that gets selected by the boss more times than not. And always puts a shift in and rarely lets us down.

Anyway my point was do we need to buy another CB when potentially we've got RB cover which could free TFM to cover CB with Dalaney and Phillips if the worse happens and both Tomkins and Kelly go down down before Sakho is back.

I'd agree with the guy above Phillips should get a run out in the cup.

Could be a great opportunity for him.

HTF can we sell Tomkins now? It would be suicide.

Had to laugh at the BBC calling Kelly a "makeshift" centre-back. He *is* a centre-back FFS.

Kelly is 10x the Centre Back that he is a Full Back.

I really wasn't sure about him for a while, especially when he was filling in at LB because Pardew decided to go a season with only Pape.

He's never complained, always put in 100% when he's been called upon, and since ~March under Allardyce when Dann and Sakho got injured and we chucked him in, he's been very good. He played against the best attack the Premier League has possibly ever seen at 30 seconds notice the other day and looked in complete control.

That Roy takes the time to call out players like Kelly is another of the things that makes Roy so likeable. Kelly wasn't even in the team, and he would out of the blue mention how hard he was working - same as he did with Sako. Credit to the lot of them. Regardless of ability, in terms of a role model, it puts players like Van Dijk to shame.
