British class system is difficult. So complex that even the British don't understand it, and will spend days debating just which class they, and their ancestors, are in. But the most important thing to remember about the British class system is that it's out of date and hinders people to progress in life and is open to discrimination.

Working Class

The Working Class used to be all those that worked for a living rather than sponging off the parents or inheriting vast amounts of dosh. Now, some of the Working Class are the only class that don't work. Instead they have the unusual career of "being on the dole".  Due to having no opportunities, those who do work get paid miniscule amounts

Lower Class

Don't look, don't make eye contact, and maybe he won't be there

Like the untouchables in India, the British Lower Class doesn't exist. But if they did exist, they would include the homeless, prostitutes, beggars, and Paris Hilton. Sometimes it takes considerable effort to remember that they don't exist, especially in large cities where there are a lot of the b******s.

LOWER MIDDLE CLASS

The class just oozes from every fold. The curtains are pretty classy too

The Lower-Middle Class are probably the most terrified of all the classes. They are petrified someone will find out they're not as Lower-Middle Class as everyone thinks. To this end, they take great pride in appearances, making sure that their doilies are pressed and their leopard print lycra carefully displayed under numerous gold chains.

lower middle Class are just Working Class people who have accidentally got a job.

Middle-Middle Class

What was once simply called the "Middle Class", is now known as the "Middle-Middle Class". This group no longer has its own identity and heritage, but is now sandwiched between the two new groups of Upper and Lower Middle Class (obviously that's "sandwiched" with the crusts cut off, sliced into triangles, and with the proper sized cup of tea available - milk in first

Upper-Middle Class

Here you will find all those that have made their fortunes in the new egalitarian world that is Great Britain. Coming from all walks of life, they have worked and scrimped and saved, innovated and enterprised, to rise above their humble beginnings and gain the coveted status of Rich Git. Once there, they can attempt to ingratiate themselves into the high-society despite still being relatively "rough at the edges". Of course, they are still plebs, so can't be seen in properUpper Class society..
As long as one keeps one's lip stiff, and resolve stiffer, then everything will be just dandy

The British Upper Class is not just a class - it is in fact a distinct species.Homo superior can be distinguished from the regular Homo sapiens by their stiff upper lips, wobbly chins, and strange distorted accents. The species has existed in Britain for thousands of years, and in that time not one drop of Homo superior blood has mixed with the lower classes. Any indications to the contrary are simply illusions. As any Upper Class person knows, such a liaison would not only be distasteful, it would also be physically impossible

In pure money terms I would say that working class is probably where the household income is below 40 grand....so obviously that covers a large number of people....but it's of course dependent upon where you live and how expensive that is, expanding and contracting in relation to that.

Working class though is more a frame of mine.....an allegiance to the people at the nitty gritty.....the coal face....rather than the world of the chattering classes who think they are above it all.....using the protections that money and location provides.

Its generally considered low skilled labour, non-skilled labour and low educated skilled labour.

Its a moot point, because that specific definition of social class is outdated, as it belongs to an industrialised society model, which this country no longer fits - were a consumer society - where in people are defined relating to disposable income (those empowered by income and those oppressed by income) - this roughly means that society privillage and focus often benefits or generally is preferential towards those who have disposable income.

Park Road,

Milk in the cup before tea comes from the lower classes because clay cups would melt if you poured tea in first.

Working class didn't used to be all people who worked for a living without sponging off parents. Doctors, lawyers, accountants and other work professions don't sponge off their parents but are working. Teaching used to be considered middle class.

I think a characteristic of being working class might be things like developing a body injury from working or suffering physically or would have to retire from the job into something less physically demanding earlier than retirement age. Or wouldn't be able to make your wage work, on your own, pay bills, in a decent private property (size unsure of), and afford a social life.

Anyone who doesn't own a service bell.

Funny one recently is when the tv is bigger than the bookcase/book shelves. Cue loads of self conscious types rushing onto Amazon to buy books for 'Shelfie' photos to post on social media. True!

Ha,Ha fair point. However the practice of putting the milk in first originated when users of fine china decided it was hazardous to pour in the hot tea first, in case the cups broke. Thereafter it was a matter of snobbery.

If you're a lawyer or any office professional on huge money you're not working class.
