Actually Roy being here if and after Zaha leaves would probably be best.

would love to think that Wilf would be around for a few more seasons yet but he is a top class player who will want to win things - his love for Palace might not be enough to keep him here even if its what we all want.

Unless we can make a big step up its inevitable we will lose him but hopefully later rather than sooner.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

Assuming that Roy is happy to stay and manages to keep us in the PL what happens in a couple of seasons? I feel we should be planning for that now and looking to bring in someone who is 'Palace' through and through to take on the mantle.

Maybe we should be looking at someone like Sean Derry or even Jedi to come in and learn under Roy?

Views?

What a stupid thread.

What on earth has Shaun Derry done in management to warrant him taking over in the PL ?

His Camb Utd team finished 11th in 'League 2' last season and are currently 13th having only won 2 of their last 12 league games.

If he hadn't been a player for us I doubt there would have been any such suggestion.

No it is quite a valid thread.

Roy may simply decide to retire like BS did, rushing about the country at 70+ will take its toll, not to mention his nervous system !!!!

If there was someone in place to take over, after being his assistant perhaps for a while, that would make sense.

Jedi would be a good choice IMO if interested.

Why is it stupid to start a conversation? Shame you had to take time from your valuable day to respond.

No need to be rude - just ignore it

Think a certain mr Freedman could be involved if that’s the road we take .

Not a stupid thread, just a question asked.
Any decent business has succession planning to replace important staff as they move up or retire. Football however is clearly a very different business. For the main the crazy money all too often means everything is about today and the next 6 months. Stability such an idea would bring, in theory is exactly what we should be seeking, but what happens if the apprentice bombs as soon as he takes over, would all be a waste of time.

As far as I am aware he has no coaching experience at all.
Be interested to know on what you base your assertion.

I suspect the same but not sure he would be the popular choice. Having said that neither were Sam or Roy.

Think Roy himself will have a say on this matter - when he consider retiring!

Thats the point Willo - maybe bring in someone to learn their craft under Roy. I think Jedi is a leader and good managers need to lead. He isn't the only candidate - its more about planning ahead this time.
