That's far too sensible for most.

On 67 mins PVA was brought on to play with Schlupp on the left 3 mins before Mensah got injured at RB. That has worked before and gives us more attacking width whilst able to rush back and defend. Roy brought on Sako for Mensah and we won. The alternative was bringing on another defender in Kelly or moving Jimmy back to RB and losing that passing threat on the edge of the box and odd goal contribution. Perhaps you might like to reconsider what happened and why. That set of substitutions and changes in the circumstances and given that some of them were forced was genius. We now look more likely to snatch something at the end of a game after playing poorly whereas we used to look more likely to lose anything we had after playing well (and on a poor performsance, finished by about 70 minutes at most). I would take Lookman in a trice BTW, but look what happened last time we tried to do business with Everton. Edited by chateauferret (14 Dec 2017 5.13pm)

PVA can be a much better player than Schlupp, just as TFM is a more talented and athletic player than Ward. However, with Ward and Schlupp pretty much guarantee you a 6 or 7 out of 10 each week. I think Roy sees that as more valuable than someone who can give you a 10 or a 3.
Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time. |

I've stated it many times. I think Schlupp is a terrible player. He's neither a left back or a left winger. I'm not sure what he is. And he has a terrible shot on him. Normally left footers can strike a ball cleanly but he can't.
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

I too have never been enamoured with Schlupp and I believe I made my views clear on HOL about him and PVA when we signed them.I think we paid £18 Mill for the pair, excluding the add-ons. He'#s another one who was brought in to play Frank football before it was realised that that was s***e. Was scouted as a wing back for a team that couldn't use wing backs. Does have decent games but can go badly flat. Fast, but less attacking nous than van Aanholt. And for all his off days he hasn't ever been as s*** as van Aanholt was in that league cup tie at Bristol City: now that really was toilet.

I believe Schlupp started out as an attacking player. I just dont see how. Out of all our players he just does not want to go forward. As soon as he receives the ball he always looking for the next pass, usually sideways or back. He almost looks scared to go forward. At least with Pape and PVA they have some inclination to go beyond there man and whip a cross in.

Nicky Forster, then Brentford manager, signed him on Loan from Leicester as a striker and he did well on the scoring front although he never played many games for them. However, I was there and cannot possibly disagree with this one. You know, I sometimes have psycho thoughts of having an opposing player in my cross-hairs. Not often I have one of my own. PS You posted this after 1am. SLEEP!

I have a geriatric cat who goes outside late at night but I can't leave her there in these temperatures. I therefore have to stay up until the Dowager Countess deigns to come back in!
