tbf between 1914 and 1967 Europe had its fair share of native nutcases who also liked a gun or two. And artillery, and chemical warfare, and laying seige, and pogroms, etc.

I wouldn't say things have got worse in the last 50 years than the preceding 50 when it comes to overall violence in Europe, would you?

Not forgetting all those abused kids around the country in children's homes and religious schools. Or what about the tremendous street violence of the 70's: skinheads, NF, hooliganism and the same way back with Mosley's lot? Then there are the razor gangs of the 50's. The streets are far more lawless with violence than any time in recent history. Murder is common place. It barely makes te local paper.

Is it really? Or is it that we now have far more news available to us and pushed at us than ever before, so it just seems worse?

In the US, violent crime and gun crime have been steadily descending for two decades. "This American carnage" that Trump promised to end has been ending anyway. [Link]
