A sea of concealed handguns. I’m trying to decide whether that’s a great metaphor or a daft one.

A little from Column A and a little from Column B.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

I get where you are coming from. Rednecks with guns aren't a good combination.
In Europe, we have to import our loons for the most part and have been doing a good job of it for 50 years or so.

tbf between 1914 and 1967 Europe had its fair share of native nutcases who also liked a gun or two. And artillery, and chemical warfare, and laying seige, and pogroms, etc.

I wouldn't say things have got worse in the last 50 years than the preceding 50 when it comes to overall violence in Europe, would you?

Not another one of your bizarre comparisons.
You can't compare domestic violence and terrorism to wars.
Next you will be reminding us about all those soldiers who came home after the Napoleonic wars and increased the crime rate.

Ok how about major crime wave in London during the 1940's? Not forgetting all those abused kids around the country in children's homes and religious schools. Or what about the tremendous street violence of the 70's: skinheads, NF, hooliganism and the same way back with Mosley's lot? Then there are the razor gangs of the 50's. And the amount of IRA incidences were a lot worse than any other terrorist group so far.

Not an immigrant in sight.

Comparing society today to the past is laughable.
The streets are far more lawless with violence than any time in recent history. Murder is common place. It barely makes te local paper.

Is it really? Or is it that we now have far more news available to us and pushed at us than ever before, so it just seems worse?

In the US, violent crime and gun crime have been steadily descending for two decades. "This American carnage" that Trump promised to end has been ending anyway. [Link]

I live in the U.S., and I am far more terrified by right-wing nutters than I am by IS-nutters. In Texas, I walk around in a sea of concealed handguns, where honking your horn could be an invitation to a shootout.

I say this not to denigrate the place I live. I say this to put some perspective on the relative death toll and overall carnage caused by RWNJs vs. ISNJs. Over the last decade or so, it's not even close. Right-wing terror attacks are more numerous and more likely to result in deaths. [Link]

The number of Muslims living in America is at 1 percent of the population.

The number of Muslims living in the UK is at between 4.4 and 5 percent of the population.

Conversations of this type need to reflect the 'living space' that these ideologies can hide in. As group populations go up hence so will sub group populations and hence attacks.

The more collected together in communities the bigger the issue. Integration to the surrounding culture has always been the answer...the best coping answer that is... but socially conservative doctrines in religions are hyper opposed to that as they correctly know it's the gradual death of the doctrine.

Exactly. Disgruntled right-wingers bring down entire buildings, killing hundreds including children, or shoot up music events killing and wounding hundreds.

This numpty disrupted train service with a device made from velcro and zip ties.

Any form of terrorism is wrong and should be collectively opposed by civilised society.

I can't speak about the States. To say that daily helping of murders are down to better reporting is ridiculous.
