Yeah, read the thread title before you start losing your s*** :-) Anyway Liverpool were supposed to be bidding for him but decided to go with Salah as he would be less of a risk, which tells you that the reason he's still at Sporting despite being scouted by top clubs is that they reckon he's not ready yet, maybe physically. So when Southampton were prepared to take a risk with players like Mane before selling him on with a massive profit, maybe Martins would be prepared to prove himself at a club like Palace, with the understanding that he could move to a "bigger" club once a release clause is met. In any event, there's no point in getting upset about a thread which is, at this time of year, no more than a bit of fun! ;-) I think its a very interesting list. Hope Freedman and Hodgson is listening!

I'd like to see skilful players, yes, but also honest, hardworking, committed and red-and-blue players rather than the type who strut about for money and play properly when they need to or feel like it. Ronaldo in the Euros was a case in point: all petulant and stroppy at the beginning when they played poorly against Iceland, only started playing when they looked like going out, preening himself in the final. I'd much rather watch Zaha, personally. I love Wilf as much as the next guy but if you'd honestly not want to see Messi at Palace when we've got free reign at all players in the world then that's mental. We could subsidise the attackers with some world class midfielders and defenders too - this is literally anyone you "want to see" at Palace

I think we have to be realistic in the January window. I hope that the club will go for their targets but not waste time. If it is a beauty contest between us and more stable premier league clubs we may lose out. Better to walk away and focus on other targets. In short we need bodies early January. If that means stop gap players rather than long term targets so be it. Dougie has his worked cut out lets hope he finds some gems.

These stop gap signings are a big part of our problems, along with Parish's preferred summer strategy and keeping Pardew too long and signing Frank full stop. Freedman needs to have come up with some top recruits, not problems for next season. PVA is another egotistical type with football not that important now he's a multi millionaire and Schlupp just isn't that good.

But then we wouldn't be Palace any more. Exactly, that's my point, because the targets named are unrealistic to Palace. It's not me losing my s*** as another poster suggested, it's just the truth. Gelson Martins is not going to come to Palace, if it were feasible to able to sign such a prospect, I can't see any reason why we wouldn't. Besides the obvious fact that our scouting network seems to have very little grasp on the foreign market, especially when it comes to potential hidden gems. Was simply tryna work out if it was a fun thread where you pick out any player name you want from a hat, or a thread of suggestions that could potentially be realistic. Based on the other players named I'd guess it was the second, hence me making the point that Gelson Martins is not someone who'd come to Palace.

But it's all a part of the obsession of staying up at all costs with the hope that eventually it'll get better. We have to start targeting players in less inflated markets, who have the potential to improve, are better on the ball and can help build some DNA from the ground up. Insanity is doing the same things over and over again and expecting a different result. Edited by Mstrobez (10 Dec 2017 12.44pm)

I would like us to sign a really unlikeable striker who will scare the sh*t out of the opposition's defence. Someone like Mitrovic comes to mind. We all too often seem too soft and someone who would do the dirty work to support Zaha, Townsend and RLC would be good, I think, plus Mitrovic may well be mates with Luka.

Not being getting in the Newcastle team this season. I thought I'd see what the Newcastle supporters think. It seems his temperament is their concern after his three-match ban for elbowing someone back in August. Despite his relatively good goal scoring form many also think that Gayle is one of their worst Premier League number 9s.

I'd like to see us go in for Joel Pohjanpalo (Finland international forward). He's currently at Bayer Leverkusen but has said he wants to go out on loan or leave the club in January because he never starts for them despite pretty much scoring every time he does. 6 goals in 29 starts for Finland (doesn't sound great, but Finland are pretty damn awful and he gets next to no service).

It could be worth looking at some of Östersunds FK's players. A lot of them would be fairly cheap as they're not the biggest club in the world, but they're making waves in Europe and will be playing Arsenal in February in the KO rounds of the Europa League. One of their star players is their midfielder Jamie Hopcutt, who's said before he'd consider returning to England with the right offer. Word is Hodgson's looking at central midfielders and he could be worth a punt. Brighton were weighing up a £1.5m offer in August, though with his success in Europe that might have nudged up a bit. Unrelated but of Hodgson leaves at the end of this season, Östersund manager Graham Potter is who I want to replace him.
