To early to make a call, wait until end of January. It will also depend on any injuries we pick up, if Zaha, Townsend and Luca get crooked, we are in trouble.

Could be a very low point total this year especially with the rich clubs firmly reasserting their financial clout.

Meanwhile, do not forget the relative decline of clubs smaller than us [not Toffees or Hammers who have other real problems]. As we have found out, January onwards finds out the weaker squads as injuries and suspensions of key players takes its toll. Trust me, we may whine about Lee, Puncheon, Sako and Lee [with some justification]; but I bet Huddersfield and our chums on the south coast would kill for back-up like them.

Finally, in January we will buy at least one new player who will make a difference; and Wickham will be like a new player when he re-joins the squad fully match fit just in time for the run-in.

14/15 and mathematically safe by the end of April.

To answer the OP question. Very close to the wire - its just a matter of which side we end up!
Reckon we may just survive by a point or two.

If those teams would kill for them do you think they might back that up with a cash offer?

Are you serious? Surprised you don't include Mutch in there. Puncheon may be considered a decent replacement, we even had a manager who thought he was Captain's material but let's not talk about that. Our squad is bare thin i.m.o.

People say this every year and it never is a low points total. That's because towards the end some at the bottom try a bit harder and those over 40 or almost on 40 try a bit less. Do you remember our players with their flip flops on in those 2 home games in Pardew's first 5 months?

You could also argue it might need a higher points total with bigger clubs yet to get it going but I personally doubt that.

Agreed, end of season games either induce tremendous performances from mid table teams because there is no pressure or it becomes an easy 3 points because they couldn't give a monkeys. We should be on guard as well as we also have that horrible habit of going down with record totals, although I'm not giving up on us yet. Feeling reasonably confident whilst on a no loss run. Let's have this conversation again after January.

Great replies guys and everyone sounding positive

I feel the same but we still got to get more than 1.2pts per game

Can Roy deliver? If anyone can, I feel he can but it would be a total Houdini act coming in on zero points

Lets see

Stats anyone to guide our optimism?

Yes I feel uneasy with fans adding however many points and places onto our shockingly bad start before we've actually got going. Even if we've got going it usually results in fan or player complacency and fig bollox results so let's still treat every game as a cup game, with a bit more urgency for 3 points is needed soon as well because it's not happening yet.

Ha! as I said elsewhere, agreed but only if we acquire better back-ups.

I was comparing our back-ups to their back-ups.

How about the goals expected stat?
[Link]

According to this article we are performing above a swathe of other teams in terms of chances but yet failing to score. We have suffered from some great goalkeeping displays and some very obvious misses - Wilf at Spurs? The optimism is in the belief that we will score more in the future if we continue to make the chances and will not miss as many opportunities.
Others, such as Burnley, will not continue to exceed expectations.
Even Everton scored four on Wednesday and they only had five shots on target.
