Was he told that or is that just media speculation.

When Roy was appointed we hadn't earned a single point, we hadn't scored a single goal and were rock bottom of the league.

As we desperately needed a striker and goalkeeper do you honestly think that anyone would have taken the job on those terms

Obviously if Zaha leaves we're goosed. Several Palace fans phoned in (that's unusual in its own right, actually) to say all the things we say whwnever selling Zaha gets mentioned.

Someone please tell me this is horses***!?

Roy is no fool,he is probably worrying that the bord might be daft enough to sell Zaha so he is allowing the glowing embers to ignite and rile the supporters into protesting so much that the board listen.

Yes, it doesn't make sense. We must at least still have the money we didn't spend on a goalkeeper and that diving cheat. Then if McArthur leaves and goes to Rangers we would have that sale to fund his replacement, although God knows whom we might want.

I hope that nobody's putting many eggs in the basket that is Conor Wickham. I heard a rumour that his rehabilitation was going well again, but when you've been out for a year you don't just walk back in and start banging in goals. It would be great to see him playing again though.

All of which would suggest a budget of around £30m plus like-for-like replacements.

If a team offers £50m+ for Zaha you just know they will sell him. It would be bad and I would hate it but not the end of the world. I would use that money to nick Richarlison from Watford and Cenk Tosun and a keeper. That would then leave any money we are given for the window to get a midfielder and right back.

Unfortunately since he is out of contract in summer we will get a nominal fee for him probably not more than £1.5 million a fraction of the replacement cost. Similarly we will have to sell Hennessey as he will want to go. So out of £30 million budget (if true) over half will go on these replacements. Therefore We will try to keep McArthur, Hennessey will go as his confidence has been shattered by abuse and I doubt he wants to play for us again

I'd ubderstood McArthur to Rangers at Christmas was a done deal, but maybe that's bollocks.

Think we should relax, he won't be sold in January that would be suicide. But we have to remember we have SP as our chairman so watch this space!! No, really I can't see this happening until we are confirmed as relegated.

Not sure how you've calculated a £30m+ budget.

Roy had clearly been saying this squad has cost a fair bit of money already so from this I think he's trying to dampen the market and fans expectations.

Personally I can't see there being any chance of a £30m Jan budget.

Next summer we're gonna have to replace Cabaye, RLC, Ward and TFM. So as far as possible we're not gonna want to dip in to next summers kity.

Yes there's the Naisse money which was spent. £8-10m plus however many peanuts we get from Rangers £2-5m max I'd have thought.

Plus what ever else we can afford, but that's surely slim pickings. Depending on league position I suspect that £10-15m won't be added to without others being sold.

So I'd say our budget is more like £10-20m at best.

£30m+ no chance.

Offers will come, but no one will offer what would be needed to get him.
Remember and I keep saying this, every player has two prices. One if you want to sell and one if you don't (hopefully he has no release clause fee).
If we wanted to sell he's a £45m+ player in my opinion, but we don't, so they have to make it impossible for us to refuse. No one's gonna offer £75m+, so I believe we're safe till the Summer.

Not sure why you're imagining a "+" sign that I never wrote. I would think £30m is maybe the high end of what we would need, but that's certainly what it could cost to get out of this.

IF we need those two players, and we do, that is the going rate in this market. Unless we get a bargain, the fact is that a decent striker will cost upwards of £20m and we still need a keeper.

Perhaps some of that will be funded by letting squad players go but I don't think we'd get much for any of them. Maybe Puncheon.

Or maybe we aren't serious about staying in this league after all.

You said £30m plus like for like replacements ie more than £30m. But if thats not what you meant sorry ignore the +

Either way i doubt we'll spend anywhere close to £30m in Jan, unless considerable income is generated through player sales.

I don't think the club are gonna spend big this window.

We could do with two players, keeper and striker but in the summer a heck of a lot of players contracts are up. Just think the club has to hold back until then, and that they will irrelevant of what we think is required.
