Can't really argue with any of the names so far, but PVA really is just terrible. A not great player to start with whose confidence has gone

In no particular order:
Benteke: not looked a threat when fit, although willing to put it down to De Boers tactics
Puncheon: completely lost it sadly. Too slow on the ball, always plays backwards.
Reidewald: looks so out his depth, worst debut performance I’ve ever seen for Palace. He’s young so should improve
Hennessey: confidence shot, needs replacing in Jan. don’t think he’s made a telling contribution so far this season
PVA: definisvely all over the shop and ineffective going forward

Bit harsh. He wasn't even the worst player on the pitch. It wasn't great but there's been plenty that have been a lot worse.

RUBEN LOFTUS CHEEK. Let's take into consideration playing time here. He's had almost 0 contributions even though he was always used as an attacking player. I never understood this transfer anyway. I never expected anything from him. It's like some players get transferred just because they come from top 6 teams. He was never amazing in the U21 Premier League seasons or in other youth competitions. He seemed ok as a deep-lying playmaker for Chelsea.
But to play him as a starter......
I give him this: he's had a few decent shots and touches for a 21 year old, somewhat unlucky once not to get a goal in. But he doesn't have any sort of experience up there, near the opposing goal. He is just too inexperienced to make the correct choices so that the attacks end with goals scored. And he doesn't really cover ground fast enough or do his defensive duties either. He's like a Shelvey being forced to operate as winger or behind the striker. Playing such a player so much time guarantees that your team will not score, which unfortunately has happened. And he even gets called up to the national team......as an attacking midfielder!!

You can't name someone like Puncheon who played as a central and even defensive midfielder. I've said this and I'll say it again: Puncheon had wonderful season when he played on the wing. Really, really good PL seasons. Since they moved him to the center 2 years ago he has been struggling.

Based on his spell at Sunderland, most neutrals would have said that PVA was perhaps the worst defender in the league.

Sunderland were flailing about all over the place and looking clear favourites to go down when they received a pretty modest bid from us, a relegation rival, for this player. It says everything you need to know that they bit our hands off.

It says Sunderland were idiots and they got relegated exactly because they sold players like PVA. Keep PVA along with Giaccherini, Lens and Khazri and boom....you got another PL relegation avoided. But instead they got in Steven Pienaar at 36. What do you want? It was Moyes......

PVA doesn't cause more problems than he does good. It's like saying Marcelo causes more problems that does good for Real Madrid.
HANDS OFF! He's a darn good player. If anyone doesn't see that then he or she is in the wrong.
Last time this year everyone here except me was saying how terrible Townsend is. And then it was a time when everyone wanted Cabaye out of the team.

Yes, PVA has made a few defensive positioning mistakes. Everybody makes them! EVERY defender in the world. You should watch Aurier from Tottenham more often. Does he not make mistakes? Do you remember the ones from the match with us? He's a fullback, just as PVA. And he's a darn good player, even if he sometimes loses his man or the ball. We judge him by what he does in entire seasons, not by a few bad decisions.
And contributing to the attack that much, actually being the best left back in the PL outside of top 6 teams, makes PVA so great. He brings for the team more points than he loses in an entire season

For me it has to be PVA.

His positional sense when defending is poor at best, and he doesn't get as many crosses into the box as he should considering he is so attack minded.

Forget his individual mistakes, this can happen to anyone. For me he has a much bigger underlining defensive problem that needs fixing if we are to give ourselves the best possible chance of staying up.

He's not a let down because i had zero expectations for him.

PVA has been disappointing but not a s much as Benteke

What do you expect from Benteke during FdB's reign? Playing football on the floor does not suit him. Using wingers and crossing the balls in to him does.

PVA for me.

He was bloody good at Villa when they played it on the floor. And Belgium never used constant high ball tactics when he played. Maybe he is just not as good now? He also couldn't get into Liverpool's team even after Suarez leaving and Sturridge long-term injured.

We didn't buy a pony but we haven't bought a thoroughbred either even though he has cost us £40mill so far.

One of the most bizarre posts I've read on this site - controversial for the sake of it.

Sunderland got relegated because Defoe was injured without any adequate back up. Now where is that happening this season. Luckily our team, not necessarily squad, is just better.

We always react the same whenever we spend big on a player; talk exclusively about the money for the first two years, before we realise that they are actually very good - same thing happened with Cabaye.

Benteke scored 15 league goals for us last season, in what was a pretty unimpressive team - to put that into perspective, our previous top scorers were;

2015/16 - Bolasie, Dann, Cabaye, Wickham - 5 goals
2014/15 - Murray - 7 goals
2013/14 - Gayle - 7 goals

So he scored more than double what any player has managed for us in a single season since returning to the PL - I find it impossible to consider that a let down, and certainly not the biggest let down in a squad performing as badly as ours.

PVA is certainly a contender, but for me it would be Townsend - 3 goals for someone who has played nearly every game in the year and a bit he's been here, and very little else in terms of game winning contributions - he works hard and puts in a shift, but he offers so little. I expected a hell of a lot more.

Defoe played in 37 of their 38 games.

Yeah, but he played more than triple the number of minutes the others got. Extrapolating, had they gotten Benteke's minutes, Gayle and probably others too would have scored more.
