I believe that the clause states that it is any new employer in football that has to pay the compensation to Palace. Not Allardyce himself.

It's only Pulis and Allardyce. Pulis never seemed attached to the club and I think only ever wanted the money. Sam needed a way back into football, did a good job and then left. Both were brought in to stave off relegation. Both got tasty bonuses. Neither arrived with a pre-season and a transfer budget to mould their style. That's part of the problem I think. Hodgson is a different fish in my view. I liked Sam, but there is something slightly shady about him. I never liked Pulis despite what he achieved for us. Hodgson has at least some attachment to the club and the area and I think if his health allows he'll be here at least until the end of next season whether we stay up or not.

If the death of a friend was a major part of his thinking wouldn't Parish have suggested that he sleep on it for a few days rather than rush into anything?

No! An acquaintance died and he resigned the next morning, like you do. And he didn’t even consider the millions of pounds he may be owed. That’s what happened. Show some respect etc.

He doesn't need the Palace job, he seems to have done what he thought was right for his family. I expect been honest with Parish giving him time to get a new man in.
