Shots on target is a useless statistic, a bit like hitting shots straight at the keeper just to improve the stats. Appreciate we didn't score but we had chances today and that is more important than shots on target.

I am concerned however that we are still conceding from free kicks, we really need a better plan to stop that happening. A point at Newcastle would have been a good result.

Yes and no tbf.

When you watch the warm up shooting they're missing a bit because they're going for the corners. But in a match you have to work the keeper. If you don't you don't know what you can get. Rebounds, off the woodwork, through his legs, deflections, ricochets.

I don't know about you but I am very concerned we've scored 1 league goal in 9 games that wasn't an own goal. A politician couldn't spin their way out of that. The last time that was tried we heard on hol radio, 'why can't all fans be like the HF?' Because we know what we're seeing. Does Steve?

Thanks, Palazio, for pointing this out. We did not produce one shot on target, and without that you need an own goal to win. Derby went down 10 years ago with 11 points, but managed to score 20 goals. Do anybody believe we can beat either?

I do. We beat Chelsea last week. We were the better team today. Don't panic it is still only October. Lets see where we are at the end of November.

I agree, I just don't like the stat and think it is very misleading. We had a number of shots blocked that looked on target, how are they counted ? End of the day we lost and haven't scored enough goals this year. The worry from this game is that we weren't able to get players in the box very often. I wonder, when was the last time we scored from outside the box? We're still very reluctant to have a pop at goal.

Zero shots on target but some very close shaves with their goalie beaten. Sounds worse than it was.

We ARE improving, no doubt about it. But for the second game get undone by a corner. And our freekicks & corners - why can't anyone hit the ball with some power? Not the "snow-on-the-ball" ones that is easy-picking for the opposition? Like for instance the Newcastle winner....

Different game from Chelsea with both teams cancelling each other for the most part. Newcastle had a couple of shots from outside the box but never looked liked scoring until the goal. We had marginally better chances but pivotal moment was the cross/shot from Loftus-cheek that Van Aanholt so nearly got on the end of when it was 0-0.

If you don't get shots on target then you don't score goals - it is a bloody important stat if you ask me!!

Misleading stat, thought we were the better team for 70 mins. We certainly had chances.

You could tell we had no striker, Zaha and Townsend naturally drifted out wide and there was no one getting in the box and therefore no crosses coming in.

I reckon we’ve turned the corner and would fancy us to beat West Ham next week if Bilic hasn’t been sacked. Do that and we’ll be right back in it.

I went to the game...We were unlucky...Whilst we are of course missing a target man, we were the better team.

We were organised across the park and NUFC never looked like scoring.

Annoying to concede again with a set piece but there was an element of luck and Speroni was partially obstructed (his kicking is poor)

I felt encouraged by the performance and hard done by the result.
Wilf looked a little tired yesterday but I thought the rest of the team put a good shift in.

If we show that fighting spirit we will pick up points. Speaking to couple of Geordies on the way home, they thought we at least deserved a point if not the victory..It was a game of few chances

Enough said re the striker crisis...Roy will have to set the team up accordingly..Our defence is looking a lot sounder and that is exactly how Big Sam started the last survival programme

Keep the belief..

It is a relevant stat. If the shot is not on target how is it going to go in unless deflected and then it becomes an own goal anyway. We did play relatively well but 'just missing' is the same as missing by a mile. The end result is that you lose. We'll go down playing well but not scoring and in years to come nobody is going to say "yeah Palace went down but didn't they play well".

the nightmare statistic reared its ugly head again today. Source : Sky tv.

we may have picked up a point against a very good Everton team. Our defenders and 'keeper did well. But did the whole team deserve the point ?

Everton were way better than us today - also according to the sky commentator.

They had the best chance which Guaita saved excellently.

We could not create anything coming forward as we didn’t get men forward in numbers and we had some poor players involved in many attacks like Macarthur, who ain’t no tricky winger let me tell you.

Meyer didn’t do much either.

Wilf was double teamed and basically crowded out and even when Andros came on with 20 mins left he barely touched it and it looks like he had been told to defend first, attack second.

You have to get some men forward and take a chance if you want to win a game like that.

Hodgson would rather not lose that game, than win it, it’s really as simple as that.

We are boring, negative, defeatist and tactically naive at home under this manager. We have no plan b whatsoever, which is pardew esque.

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.
