In California, the state has just changed the law so it is now no longer a felony if you knowingly pass on the HIV virus. This includes giving blood without telling the blood bank. [Link]

Another new law means you can go to jail if, as a health care worker, you use the wrong gender pronoun when referring to a transgender patient. [Link]

A new bill states that companies must give employees 72 hours' notice if immigration officers are investigating their residency status – or they are fined. [Link]

Ninety percent of California sex offenders will no longer be required to register with law enforcement for life under a bill. [Link]

This is the sort of dangerous stuff that happens when you have loony left/liberals in power. It's a stark warning to Britain.

Second one about the pronoun is a bit overstated as no provision applies to individuals but the first is stupid. The third isn't really about being liberal its about protecting businesses and business owners who exploit illegal labor.

Did read the last one as I agree entirely with you.

Of course this is liberals being dangerous... Whilst meanwhile republicans and conservatives continue to protect gun ownership from regulation.

There is actually a different way of looking at this, though it won't appeal to the frothers amongst us.

1.Its an example of what happens when free market right wing liberalism is dominant

2.Its an example of the prevalent "small government regulation" ethos.

3.California is a stark reminder of the American dream in action;massive wealth disparities, f--k your neighbour, low taxes, lots of image and little substance...

I don't how you derived that from the OP.

But then it's you isn't it. Always peddling the victim mentality.

Its great that they have changed the law on sex offenders. You can go on the register for taking a piss in public. You would be tagged for life as an offender for life for doing that.

Plus with any other law, once you have served your time, you allowed to try to rebuild your life and live as a normal member of the public. You cant do that if you it was a sex offence, even after being released from prison you continue to have to tell people what you did, you will never realistically get a job, have children, live a normal life.

I know its not a popular view because in our heads all sex offenders are paedophiles but in truth its normally just someone who made a terrible mistake and will be punished for it for life.

Im not big on America but "Freedom from persecution" gets thrown around a lot, this in my opinion would apply here...

Well,Stirling who would have thought you knew so much about the happiness or unhappiness of woman many years before you were even born.

Virtually impossible to get away from an abusive husband?

Trapped in a loveless marriage with someone you hate and they hate you because of an unwanted pregnancy?

Husband raping you not being illegal?

Taking for granted you will be paid far less than a man doing the same work?

Being told "go and powder your pretty little face" and "leave the important things to the boys"?

Dying from a back street abortion?

Bring back the good old days?

I guess the 'some things better, some things worse' bit kinda flew over your head then? Also survey data still survives from the past legal....who knew eh.

Yep....negatives exist from the past though it wasn't impossible to get away from an abusive husband it depended upon the situation.....Also I'm not sure that hearing 'sexist' remarks ever seriously bothered more than a tiny amount of usual reactionary morons who always get bothered about something anyway......love.

You also seem to just completely ignore the rather damning reality that both sexes were happier then. There are several reasons for that I think.....but one thing is for sure....modern life and 'progressive attitudes' haven't worked in making people happier.

There are better realities in some ways and it's a lot worse in others.

You are right to point out the modern day hysteria around anything sexual. There's a weird mixture of repression and something else going on.

In the past I think laws and concerns were too lax....but today you can't even discuss anything sexual without the usual morons labeling you this or that for questioning attitudes.

Californian law prohibits the keeping of ferrets because some idiot in charge thinks they're wild animals. Given that it's ridiculous to expect competent legislation from them in any other area.

Yeah, a particularly stupid thing to do.

Great novel, important themes (particularly relevant in many ways with the deep divisions currently in the US), banned when 1 person complains.

Although, oddly, one suspects plenty of extreme right wingers over there (the KKK, white supremacy crowd) will be high fiving each other over the ban.

This is the ultimate example of shooting yourself in the foot. I wonder what sort of person would complain.

It would be doubly ironic if it was some snowflake whitey.

The UK mainstream media (BBC, Sky News, Channel 4 News etc) are obsessed with stories from the US. The stories I quote from bills made by Democrat lawmakers, particularly the HIV one, are news worthy. Part of the reason for the post was to highlight the lunacy of certain Democrats. However, the media only covers negative stories from the Republican party and feel they have a duty to avoid negative coverage of the Democrats.

If you don't believe me, go on the above outlets' YouTube pages and tot up the number of (lack of) negative stories on the Democrats. I'm not saying the Republicans should be free from criticism, but there should be fairness in reporting. Meanwhile, people in the UK are brainwashed with this anti-conservative propaganda. No wonder they think Obama and Hillary are amazing and Bush and Trump are evil. Something I've really noticed while spending time in the US.

It's no different to the reporting on football managers. Ones that are showing more signs of incompetence and weakness and having a big gob when their team is doing badly will be under a lot more scrutiny from the media than some mid-table boss shuffling long. And managers out of work like Irishman Dem O'Cratic will be largely ignored until such time as they have the hot seat again.

Well I bloody never, we agree on something.
