Ignoring the posts which clearly deserve to be ignored (if not censured), it’s surely ironic that the man who brought our club to the brink of extinction should now be a commentator on its activities. Yes, he’s a fan and he pumped a lot of money into the club he supported, but if it hadn’t been for the Consortium he might very well have been the man who consigned the memory of Crystal Palace FC to the history books.
He is opinionated and some of his opinions were and are worth expressing, but how he can have the brass neck to criticise the regime that succeeded the mess that his regime left behind is beyond me.
You only have to read his autobiography to realise that he was a self-professed wide boy and his wealth came from a lucky break rather than a sound and sustained business career.
Now I’m not knocking this, as it’s more than I’ll ever achieve. If I had the wealth, of course I’d be looking to see how I could support our club. Similarly, Steve Parish has achieved far more than I could ever hope to achieve. He’s also invested big time in our football club – and to such a great effect. He’s a committed fan – unlike the foreign investors who’ve backed so many other clubs in the premier league. Do we really want to be a Chinese, Russian or Saudi plaything?
As Simon Jordan said in his autobiography’s title – “Be careful what you wish for “.

He's invested considerably less than Simon Jordan did and has had it back in spades. Good luck to him and the other three, and he's managed the money much better than SJ did, but the way the purchase was structured there was actually very little risk for the original four. If we'd have managed to stay up under Jordan, and if we'd actually owned the ground, it might have been a different story.

Another thread having a pop at Simon Jordan!!! Yawn!!

Did the poor palace fans nearly lose their team?? Awww bless!! At least if there's no Palace, you can just find something else to do on a Saturday afternoon, that poor sod lost millions of his own money and had 10 years of stress trying to run the club, so I think his opinion is more relevant than a lot of those Sky pundits who have never put their head on the chopping block in any way shape or form!!

A rent-a-gob like Jordan, who slags people off just to be controversial, should (and does) expect some criticism back.

TV companies are not going to hire people that are shrinking violets with no opinion on anything - nobody would watch them !

SJ has had the experience of owning and running CPFC, and like him or not, he is certainly qualified to comment on those subjects.

One of the big differences between Jordan and Parish is that Jordan treated players like his employees ( which of course they were ), whereas Parish seems to want to be their mate. In my experience, you can rarely have it both ways.

This bloke went to a public school with SJ

I'm not aware that Simon went to any 'Public school'.
I am aware that he went to a school in Purley (Name escapes me) and that someone I know was in the same class as him.

Purley Boys. Originally a grammar school. The General of the Death Star went there. He was the CGI image in episode 7 for young people. The school took ages 14-18 when schools after juniors only had 3 years, as it would've done when sj was there, but it wasn't a grammar or private. Just a state school.

It became Coulsdon College in the very late '80s. The old buildings have been knocked down and in its place is a big glass fronted building resembling something from Star Wars.

The thing that surprises me with Pardew, and I really was not a fan of him at all, is that since he's left the club he's actually come across as quite a knowledgeable and level headed guy in punditry. Polar opposite of when he was a manager.

Have thought Jordan was a tit for the last 17 years.

The test of people is when the pressure's on, not when they can be snides at the side.

And when the pressure was on is when we saw Pardew's mettle: he was thinking more about his Wikipedia entry than how to give a truthful, self-analytical view of his/our failings.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

On Sky the Debate currently. Can't believe how many people are all of a sudden making him out to be some sort of footballing philosopher. For me he just waffles, talks in riddles and comes across as a complete narcissist.

I've had my fair share of complaints for Parish recently but watching this guy go on in the way he does does make you wonder.

He's a total prat but he thrives on that and it's generally amusing. If he was on QVC selling Fake Bake then he'd have some credibility in that field, but otherwise he's just an amusing knob head. Reminds me of myself in that respect (except I don't use fake tan)

He and Pardew both seem to think they have a greater grasp of the English language than they actually do. Results in some very bizarre speech patterns.

I met a cabbie that used to drive AP regularly and he said that he was a bit thick and sometime used to crack him up with his pronunciation with some English words. One day he needed to go to Surrey Quays (normally pronounced as in ‘keys’). AP asked to go to Surrey ‘Kways’!!
