You're right, it doesn't matter. Puncheon is club Captain but should probably be dropped. Sakho will probably get the armband when that finally happens.

Who starts will be an important decision, the Captaincy isn't.

Don't some teams have both a club captain and a team captain?

That's that sorted then with no public loss of faith (even if people actually have) in Punch

Yeah, that's what I mean. If and when Punch is dropped, he'll still be club captain. Whoever gets the armband when that happens isn't really a big deal.

Some people need to wear an armband to be leaders, others just ARE.

It seems to me that Mama inspires just by running onto the pitch, and doesn't need anything more. Captain is largely symbolic and entails basically tossing the coin and shaking hands.

Making sakho captain should have been his first job when he walked in!

Well if the captaincy does go to Sakho, let’s hope it doesn’t do to him what it seemed to do to Scott Dann.

Has anyone ever heard professional players saying how much importance they place on who is captain?

I hear a lot of successful teams saying they have 'leaders all over the pitch' but would giving Sakho the armband mean anyone listens to him more than they already do?

The plus side is this would hopefully give Punch a rest until he rediscovers some form around 2021.

I'm far too lazy to go and find out but wonder if anyone's said one way or the other if it matters who is skipper.

when I hear teams say that I read it as them trying to convince themselves that they're all leaders when in fact they're rudderless. In any team in sport our out of it you need a designated leader who takes control of things when goings are good or bad. If you leave it up to everyone you leave it up to no one. Sakho is captain material, Punch' is not.

As mentioned in the opening post, Sakho leads by nature and was captain in all but name anway.

So it's not an issue. If players were arrogant enough not to listen if he doesn't have the armband then it's an issue but that's not the case.

The only thing It could possibly do is upset the Puncheon camp (whether that's just him or if there are a few players that want him as captain) at a time we badly need a united front with everyone related to the club.

However, a lot of Managers have the Louis Van Gaal mentality that Captain, regardless of form needs to be first name on the team sheet. This held United back for years and it took a massively strong personality in Mourinho to bench him and move them forward.

Even then, Mourinho had to publicly say Rooney is still a star player and is his captain and he loves him blah blah blah. That's what Roy needs to be strong enough to do. If he handles it amicably and says Puncheon's our best player in interviews but ultimately doesn't play him then I don't care what lip service he's paying forward or if he's given 'club captain' status.

However, I don't think Roy is strong enough and Punch will start all our Prem games this season. Hope I'm wrong.

Not too sure about that - he does plenty of communicating on the pitch - main problem is he just not playing well enough to continue to get picked each week.

Calvin Andrew did plenty of pointing where people should be too.

Against Southampton the bloke was pointing when they we're taking a throw in he's clueless. I don't understand why some people still rate him

He may do a lot of talking and pointing, but does anyone actually take any notice? Think it was the Swansea game where we had a free kick just outside the box. Cabaye picked the ball up but puncheon told townsend to take it. They both ignored him and cabaye took it....
