If he had been retained by the club then the Premier League would have been extremely unlikely to grant permission to sign a free agent - which is the whole purpose of this. Because we currently have 24 senior players, Perntreou would have been number 25 and whilst you can leave players out of the 25-man squad if you are looking to add another and have created that one space by deciding not to register an overage player then it looks very much like bending the rules and defeats the point of the 25-man squad to an extent. Thus, releasing Perntreou means only 24 overage players, meaning we can sign a 25th on a free. He is ineligible to register with a new club before January as his registration was held by Palace AFTER the transfer window closed.

Originally posted by rossboss29 He still could of been retained by the club, just not part of the 25 man squad as he is over 21 and would need to be registered as part. Still could of played for the under 23 side. Looks like they don't rate him too highly. Looks like they have paid him off and also let him train with us till Jan, which is nice enough, hopefully he can find a new club so he can play first team football and progress. If he was retained he had to be part of 25 and we would not have had a space. Difference with Marange and one other player that year was we named 25 players

Said this on another thread regarding the squad rules and loads of people shot me down and said I was talking nonsense. If you have 25 pros on the books and then choose to name 24 players then you can't add a free agent. That is why we named Mutch. I imagine that Klenton's contract is so small it would have cost us nothing to buy him out. Luckily he did a decent thing and cancelled it mutually so that he can continue to train with us and we don't have to pay out the contract. Mutch however is on big wages with a little bit left to run. Cancelling his contract would be extremely expensive. He smacks of the sort of player happy to sit there and take a wage, probably why he rejected the loan moves.

Do you have any links to show this is what happened or are you just guessing because you don't like him?

Does this also explain Hiram Boateng going to Exeter? Rumour control has it that Hiram had been told he would never make it with us but the club then blocked two different clubs trying to sign him. Only eventually to be shipped out at the very end of the window. Football is always going to be a matter of opinion but the way we treat younger players is getting worse and worse.
Taking the bungy jump since 1964. Never to see John Jackson in a shirt again Sorry to see Lee Hills go, did we ever see Alex Marrow? We did January 2013 |

This is interesting. He has been asked - after the transfer deadline (so he cannot join another club) - to accept release. Could be juggling with the 25 named player place. He will not have joined another club before the January Window opens, and is allowed to train with Palace. We get number 25 in (whoever that may be) and come January Julian Speroni makes way for him as a PL squad goalkeeper. Someone has been thinking, I am waiting with interest on the new arrival later this month and events when the January Window opens. COYP Seems ridiculous that he can't join another club, we only had to take that decision because the Niasse transfer collapsed after the 11pm deadline. Edited by chateauferret (05 Sep 2017 8.25am)
