Steve Parish did make the point at the time that the club were completely unprepared for promotion and didn't have the infrastructure in place for proper scouting

Missed the point Alan. It's not about recommendations or anything like that. The first 2 years, you can forgive how poor the scouting is, but come on 5 years in the division. We should be better. Yes I like mamadou and happy his back. Throughout the last 3 years, we seen nothing of quality brought in from a foreign side barring Luka. If you rate our scouting network, I'd like to know why.

The trouble is Dan the club cannot win on here, because of so many negative posters.
I don't care where the player comes from as long as he gives his all in a Red&Blue shirt.
Ideally they come from our own Academy.
So if Sam chose Mamadou and I presume Frank agreed to sign him,we have signed a great player,as long as he plays to that 8 game standard.
Each window we need to improve the team if possible, with one or two signings.
Frank should be able to get this club up the league with the players he has.
If he doesn't he will go.

The scouting and academy at the club needs a complete overhaul, as stated we all love a youngster to come through the academy, look at the love for Wilf and Jonny Williams on here. So , how come Kinnetic academy , based in Croydon can get youngsters placed at Burnley ,Man City and various football league clubs, all local South London boys

Your right but we wonder why we're paying big money for average players because our scouting is poor imo.

I'm not sure we have such a bad scouting network? Probably most prem clubs struggle getting players in and making sure with such huge outlays they will fit in? We may not have the right manager at this time but the squad is quite strong in my opinion? It's not easy competing with clubs in what is the best league (my opinion again) there is. Anyone can beat anyone if the strategy is correct within the team. Afraid ours isn't as I write :-( But, let's not forget where we have come from in such a short time. Many of us were there in 2010 when there nearly wasn't a Palace. Others have been around (me 196 for a long time and this is the best squad ever for me even if we have blown things a bit in the last couple of years rather than progressing? Hopefully we grow more and all these present doubts fade away and we get another 5 or more years in the prem with a cup win thrown in - it won't last forever, so let's hope we sort this present manager problem out soon and we continue this journey in the prem? This squad is better than most from about 8 down, it just needs managing correctly?

I know many on here dislike the reminder of administration however at this point we had to dismantle all our scouting network and this takes years to get back. However I would agree that 7 years on , 5 in EPL we should be further forward. A number of things haven't helped the the changes of manager is one, the fact that until FDB they were all english mostly with few foreign contacts.

We have brought in a number of foreign league players some have thrived eg Luka, Jedi, Souare and some have failed eg Pedrosa, Campaña and Mandanda. We have brought in young foreign players into academy and we must wait and see what that brings.

I think one of the reasons that FDB was brought in was his knowledge of european leagues and that his name would hopefully tempt some players to come to Palace. The one player we can be sure was his choice Jairo Riedewald doesn't yet look ready for the EPL. (I realise I am making judgement after 1 game)

The fact that we have no 3rd goalkeeper, no backup strikers show to me that something is wrong. Is SP not backing his manager or is his manager not identifying targets?

Where was de Boer in the transfer deadline. I don't think he had a say. Does that tell us something?

Most scouting is done on the Internet nowadays anyway. FdB must have excellent contacts and a great knowledge of European players, so I disagree with the assumption. Why we did so badly, I like everyone else don't know?
Maybe uncertainty over the manager had an effect? Maybe we'd have no spare funds right now as we have other things to spend on? Maybe there wasn't a goalkeeper or forward we could get that we felt was value and we weren't prepared to pay over the odds? Maybe everyone overslept? Maybe no one could give a toss and are determined to send us down? Maybe Parish wanted to piss off Croydonlad and Dan89? Last one is more likely as we even got Everton to stitch us up over Niasse.

Ho hum......

I'm a fan mate, that watches prem league and often la liga. I think niasse would be a reasonable signing but how can the likes of Watford and wba get players like krychwioak and Richarlson and our scouting rely on players on England only. If your happy with our scouting please enlighten us why.

Krychowiak was offered to Slaven Bilic first before being picked up by West Brom. Obviously West Ham didn't fancy him!
Palace couldn't have had a look at Krychowiak as it is a only a loan deal from PSG but WBA are having to pay all his £110,000 a week salary.

Richarlson joined Watford from Fluminense they needed to get a work permit for him which was sailing very close to the wind as they had bought him already for £11.5m.
He agreed to go to Watford as they have a Portuguese manager and Gomez a Brazilian goalkeeper. Once again not much use to us if he cant speak a word of English or French!
Watford are owned by Giampaolo Pozzo who owns Udinese. His son Gino runs Watford for him. That's why they have instant Italian connections.
Remember their Championship side in 2013 with 9 loan players from Udinese and Granada Matej Vydra winning player of the season from FFS! Got the loan rules changed after that.
Does that answer your question!
Sometimes players just don't fit your clubs current DNA.
Its certainly has not the greatest transfer network or policy overall by any means over the last 5-6 years.

We also have to remember we do not exactly offer the most salubrious or luxuriant facilities compared with other clubs not many miles from us.
However I do think our own scouting network will continue to improve.
It is all about finding young undiscovered talent signing them early either to the academy or in the squad just like diamond mining!

Something is obviously wrong although none of us know whether the problem is with SP or FdB neither or both.

Many people will guess though and offer their guesses as fact as is the way on HOL

We were certainly linked with quite a few goalkeepers over the period and as many of them were Dutch they would either have been FdB's targets or media speculation and again we don't really know the answer

Unless we are really unlucky (now I've said that we probably will be) there will be no need for a third choice Goaly.
The under 21 lad can do that.
However Centre Forward is risky.
