Interesting reading the comments on the transfer window, and for the most part I would agree with them, but a lot of blame for the shambles seems to be being thrown about willy-nilly, so, trying to take a balanced view here's a few thoughts.........

Lots of complaints we should have gone earlier for Sakho and just paid the £30 mill and not wasted 3 games: well we actually saved £6 MILLION and got a player who is STILL not fit (so would not have played those three games anyway). This is who the biggest mob were baying for and this is who you got, so stop complaining and let's hope that he will be the saviour that everyone thinks he will!

Two wonderful contrasting views going on - a) the board did not back Frank in the transfer window and b) Frank has no experience in the EPL - so was it that the board did not back him or did Frank actually not know who he wanted for the club to be able to go in for them if he is that unfamiliar with English team players? Easier to blame Parish for it all though.

We didn't get a striker, we didn't get a goalie...... just look at our record over the past few years: a revolving door of managers and of players in/out of favour with each change, a relegation struggle every year - possibly we are not the most attractive club to a player with ambition, and sadly even the best fans in the EPL can't advance any players' career in world football.

As for the reported admin cock-up on one deal - well is anyone who has ever dealt with the box office really surprised at that..........

We will never know what went on behind the scenes in the weeks, days and hours before the deadline - perhaps we were actually better off in the old -pre digital media days, when the first anyone knew about a transfer was the earlier of them playing in a match or the weekly publication of the Croydon Addo...

Good post Becky.
As a window or a deadline day it has me baffled. The early 3 signings/loans were clearly FdB influenced, everything since then baffling.
We signed an injured player who won't be ready for about a month and I'm not even sure the manager even wanted him. Much is expected of Sakho and I hope many are right and he will be a big influence off the pitch, which always helps.
The word leaked is FdB is on borrowed time and I have to assume that's true as no leak has come out denying or even backing the manager. So was this the force Frank to walk deadline day, cos he surely can't be happy?
We are weak at rb/rwb, keeper and centre forward and none of these issues were addressed. I'd say the happiest people with that deadline day are Wayne, Jules, Ladapo and Anderson. We have to hope that the new Harry Kane is bursting to get out of one of those two.
We failed to remove the dead wood on big wages and only really offloaded some youth prospects. Do we only have one negotiator with a landline? As Becky pointed out we aren't as attractive as we think we are and at least we haven't lumbered ourselves with more dead wood on big wages.
I'm old enough now to be more rational and I'll never be abusive to the people who represent our club on or off the field, but I am concerned with developments.
The next window will be massive and Dougie will be well settled in so hopefully we can get some real business done.
Finally we need someone (Parish) to come out and explain the financial situation, cos earning £100m a year from TV plus commercial business and claiming to be broke needs explaining to idiots like me? It's not as if we're currently spending £200m on stadium and infrastructure improvements is it?

Personally I think all those on here pinning their hopes on Sakho being a saviour are setting themselves up for disappointment.

1) He's not yet fully fit
2) I have my doubts that he can play in a back 3 (should FdB persist with it) and he'd need time to adjust
3) We need more than a CB...we need a Keeper and a Striker (as we all know)

So by putting all your faith in one player to address our deficiencies is unfair on him.

But nobody can dispute that we need a world-class centre back and a defensive leader under either system and Sakho is both of those things.

It looks like the January transfer window will be spent belatedly addressing obvious gaps in the squad that should really have been filled five months earlier.

Again.

Ask me about Ronald de Boer.

True, but in reality, how many signings were we likely to be able to make that would please fans, when we spent 30m on one player.

Problem of scale I guess. One big signing a window?
