If van Dyck is worth £75m I don't see how Sakho isn't easily worth £30m.

Yup and Benteke is the 2nd biggest scorer with his head in the prem. A shoe-in for a club whose brand is wing play and crosses to the "big man".

On paper it was a no-brainer and good value for an internaional striker in the current market. That it failed this season for reasons no-one can put their finger on could not be predicted.

Hindsight is such a wonderful thing.

Origi is a 23 yo player though, totally worth 30 million.

But, from what I understood, Klopp is waiting for him to come back from Wolfsburg (where he's had a pretty good individual season) to have a talk with him about his future at Liverpool.
Solanke is on his way out on loan. Who will be the 3 backups for Salah, Mane and Firmino next year? Sturridge probaby will go. One of Fekir/Lemar will come in. One of Ings and Origi will be kept.
Origi seems the only one who can actually deputise as center forward too, cause it's a position where they aren't actively searching for a player to transfer.

32 goals and assists against top division teams in the last 3 years (4600 minutes as center forward).
1 goal or assist in less than 150 minutes.
Really fast too, deployed as winger several times

Indeed - and when playing out wide has the ability to beat players in one-on-one situations.Good close control and a good range of shooting with both feet.I believe he is 6ft 1in tall and has the ability to jump high. Can run in behind defences and has the strength to hold off opponents.Has taken penalties for Liverpool.

Ha.

Must have had a bit of a bad Google moment when I said he was in the world cup squad - this time around he hasn't even made the 28. That says a bit when Benteke has made the squad.

Reading further his spell at Wolfsburg wasn't quite the success reported either. A Sky report from the end of March has stats showing a horrid run of 17 games with just one goal and performances that tailed off notably after a bright start.

I would have thought 30 mill was too much anyway and he wouldn't seem to have done anything at Wolfsburg to take him up a bracket. You're buying potential as much as anything.

Says absolutely nothing. It's a Roberto Martinez's point of view. And we all know managers are very prone to making mistakes.
There's a huuuge gap between a player like Origi with 32 goals and assists in 4600 minutes and a player like Benteke with 32 goals and assists in 7500 minutes.

Martinez is doing the call ups based on a preference that doesn't hold any evidence. Does he value Benteke simply because he can hold the ball??
They already have Lukaku to do that. I think Origi's speed would have come very much handy for them

I think Newcastle should buy him just because his name would sound awesome in a Geordie accent.

Vive le Roy!

Jesus....that's a real fact based thinking!! How about taking into consideration superstitions too when deciding about going for a player or keeping clear?

Sorry I'm not buying your stats and view that he did well in struggling side. Your judgment there was way out and I think Martinez may just be a tad more informed than you. There's plenty of evidence to back up his decision not to call up Origi.

If you read the reports about his stay at Wolfsburg. He had a foul season there.Yes he had a great start with 4 goals right at the start of the season but only scored 2 more after that and also performed very poorly overall. Wolfsburg went from wanting to buy him to benching him towards the business end of the season and the fans certainly didn't want him back.He bombed.

Does he have qualities? For sure. But I wouldn't go anywhere near 30 mill for him. And that was the point of my post.

We haven’t really played with width this season. Our current formation is all about playing narrow and giving up the width in order to control the middle.

Roy isn’t the type of manager to stick to one formation and I’m certain we will see the best of Benteke again.

He had scored those first 4 goals in 700 minutes.

Went on to score 3 more and give 3 assists in the next 1500 minutes he played until the end of the season.

Pretty much a similar stat, 1 in 200 minutes, it shows constance. But he was very much forced as a winger. As a center forward alone he has 28 goals and assists in 4000 minutes in Wolfsburg and Liverpool.
So, play him asa acenter forward and he is better than most. Play him as a winger and he does all right, but not extraordinarily.
