A failure at our club would follow on from his sacking at Inter Milan so his managerial star would be somewhat dimmed.

At his first press conference at our club when asked about what he had learned from his time at Inter Milan he said he had learnt a lot.He used the same terminology after the Huddersfield game when asked what he had learned from the defeat.

It is of course in all our interests that FDB succeeds at our club.M'thinks that Steve Parish will come in for much vituperation if FDB fails !

I'm refusing to jump on this drama queen knee jerk tide just yet but I have to say from the minute he was appointed something just felt as if we got the man for Southampton & Southampton got the man for us. Time will tell but if this system is genius or complete dog s***, I'm certain we won't know until at least 7-8 games in. Unfortunately the fickle nature of a lot of our fans will probably not afford him that if results don't pick up as early as, well Liverpool even.

I general I agree with these sentiments.

I did feel that someone like Dyche was a better fit for our club and as well as mentioning his name to a few people outside of HOL also mentioned Simon Grayson.
but alas these two are not as "Sexy" managerial wise as FDB.

Like you, I am giving it time !

What I do hope he's learnt is that it's a results business and that style over substance won't cut it.

I don't know why you're banging on about dyche. Parish has made he's decision. Now it's time to put his money where his mouth is.

He has said before that he respects results over style. Cant really fault him for at least trying to play a more passing game at home to PL new boys. I think he's learned a very tough lesson from the weekend and hopefully we'll start playing to our strengths and introducing new things slowly

What if putting style over substance initially eventually leads to a style with more substance? Does he deserve time or do we sack him after a month?

All I am saying that in various conversations with people (I daren't refer to them as 'Contacts' !) after Allardyce resigned, I mentioned Dyche as well as Grayson that's all.

We have FDB in situ and of course it is in all our interests that he succeeds.I am certainly not getting into any knee-jerk reactions and writing him off after a single game.

Yeah and let's hope Marco Silva doesn't do the business at Watford or you'll end up looking a bit silly after your relentless campaigning against him! Happy to eat my hat if you prove us all wrong though

Certainly deserves time.
It would look farcical if the axe fell after a month.

Agree. It was never gonna be a quick turnaround and I'm quite surprised at fans who expected it to be. He's here and should get supported until his management is indefendable.

Wise words, but "Indefendable" in terms of timescale varies amongst supporters.
