It gets you to safety and then you try the new system in competitive matches for the rest of the season and get ready to use that system for the following season. A good manager will also adapt their systems for an individual match, or even during a match, I didn't see much of that today when we were playing crap under the 'new' system.

So why not play the system the team know, and feel comfortable with, until we are practically safe and then start changing the system?

I would love to see us make a go of 343, but nothing I've seen do far gives me any confidence that we can play it well. If we are playing with wingbacks, the three forwards need to play much closer together, further in field. Yet wilf and townsend (when he came on) were still playing as wingers. This meant benteke was very isolated and the wingbacks were playing too close to the wingers and there was no space. I thought at one point frank said you had to play the system that got thd best out of wilf. Does 343 really suit him?

Spot on..its clear we still have players trying to adapt but there were positives today in RLC, Dann, Fosu Mensa and reidewald...our fans are fickle and will NEVER he happy. I'd have been more concerned if we didn't create chances but we did.. many more than they did.. the difference being we didn't convert them and their keeper made saves.. they took their chances even though to be fair we might as well have not had a keeper at all.

You saw Dann and reidewald as positives. I thought they were competing to be the most s*** player on the pitch

The system that gets the best out of Wilf is the one that we played under Sam and it involves having other outlets for attacking than Wilf himself, i.e. Townsend.

What about Huddersfield then?

What about them ?
They played a system that they had been playing all last season and were used to in the championship. They bought in some better players than they had last season and so were even better at it.
Probably played those players and system in the pre-season too.
They came up against us trying to play a similar system to them with a bunch of players that really were not comfortable with it . It was a gift of three points for them and most could see it coming a mile away.
Had we played the system we played once we had hit out stride under BS we would have had a much better chance of winning and I think we would have.

Now unless we think we can afford to keep on playing this system so we can get relegated and practice in the championship I would like us to play to our strengths and make progress slowly. That is , stay up attract and afford better players that we enable us to change our style gradually.

I thought Dann was awful too. Ward was a waste of space. Luka did nothing . The only positives were the loan kids who showed everyone else up.
Wilf wasted his chances as did Benteke. And where was the manager??
We need 4 at the back. It's seems obvious.
Finally Punch was no way the worst for us today.
Total let down.

The trouble is we are the only team in the division trying a new system which makes us fodder for all the teams in the league. I want us to play a more possession based game than we did under BFS but to try it all in one go and expect it to work us just foolhardy.

I don't necessarily disagree with this but the negative effect groaning every time a player tries to pass the ball out rather than hitting and hoping shouldn't be under estimated. It's like we refuse to even try.

Trying is the operative word, if they could pass it out no one would moan , unfortunately we pass it three times for no reason then have to hoof it.

I'm sorry but that's bulls***. We groaned *because* the ball was passed back to Hennessey and eventually it led to Riedewald hoofing it instead. I guess if that's the style you prefer to see then so be it

3:4:3 = relegation
4:3:3 = survival

Your choice.
