i don't think he has a very strong hand in any contract negotiations.

That depends who, if anyone, has been whispering in his ear.

IF this (or any of the other departure rumours) has any basis in fact, then my concern would be that we may be placing all of our eggs in the 3-4-3 basket, which is fine if it (hopefully) works, but could leave us with problems if it doesn't. I'd be wary of ripping up all of the old foundations until it's established that the new building is viable.

dont get me wrong, I am very much up for Ward being upgraded on, but what a half decent right sided player to have on the bench, its a squad game.

Cant blame him for thinking about leaving but not sure he'd get prem minutes elsewhere...

Errrrm, if 3-4-3 goes horrendously or Frank turns out to be a failure then when we get our Allardyce 2.0 in January to save us from relegation he's going to go back to 4-3-3.

This will be where we need Ward.

It's a rare case of let him go for free next season and keep him just in case.

If De Boer is a success then we make so much money from our final position that losing a low value player like Ward for free isn't an issue.

If he fails then Ward likely comes back in as traditional right back, re-establishes himself under new Manager and gets a new contract.

This has potential to be Jedinak all over again.

Both Kelly and Mensah are more than capable at right back.

I agree with all eggs in one basket mentality but apparently we still want a rwb in. If we do want to go 433, we still have Tomkins, Kelly, fosu Mensah and the potential new rwb to play there.

Joel Ward and Julian Speroni were the two players we took up with us in the Championship that I thought were most ready for Premier League football. I think that was possibly proven although I acknowledge a lot of other players stepped up to the mark. However, I am now thinking he's probably somewhere like 15th or 16th on the list. That's not to say he's got worse, but I think it does show how the club have progressed and several areas of the pitch. I also think he's a good fullback with very little ability as wing back, which you can't blame him for, he came in as a fullback and has just had something different asked of him. A great servant to the club that, if he parted, will almost certainly do so with no hard feelings from Palace fans that have seen him put in shift after shift, but I do feel we should be looking to upgrade here.

Inevitable I suppose if he feels he won't get a look in under a 3-4-3 system.

However, if (as someone else has said) 3-4-3 goes to pot and we revert back to 4-3-3 then Ward will come back into the fold.

Don't sell him just yet.

If the story is true, not a surprise - Ward isn't the sort to be happy with warming the bench and could probably get picked up by a lower-half PL team. A loss for us as a versatile back-up player, but we should be looking at much better for a RB/RWB position.

Ward was absolutely fantastic in the Pulis campaign - shame it's been disappointing since.
