Don't play 3-4-3 and we'll probably be alright this time. Play it and I'm not sure. Last season we threw away too many points vs West Brom and Bournemouth at home with Spurs away in between. Left us with 1 point from 9 and near enough bottom. Pardew's amateur approach and lack of fitness were a factor, but I'll never forget the frustration at the Holmesdale end when defending a corner vs Bournemouth in the 1st half and the team all over the shop.

We can't be complacent vs the poorer sides in this easier start. The aim is to progress away from the bottom, not make it difficult for ourselves to do so.

That is a large part of why we're "underprepared" and using players out of position (which Pardew was slated for incidentally). Switch to 4-3-3 and suddenly we have the personnel for the system and the experience to make it work. We're trying to change too much in too short a time and without the personnel to do it. We should start with a system we can cope with and work on change over the season.

I sincerely hope de Boer can make it work because I certainly don't want to see us struggle again this season. It does make you wonder what those in the camp with PL experience, like Sammy Lee, have to say about it. Is it like the emperor's new clothes where everyone just goes "good idea boss" and don't point out the potential pitfalls?

The great things that steve parish and the board have done for our club has been exceptional but the fact remains we have one fit striker heading into our first game of the season on Saturday. We have not a prem standard goalkeeper according to many. Potentially starting a defensive midfielder at cb because of lack of signings. Not adequate right back cover. This has become a regular occurrence especially under Steve parish stewardship. I understand the window doesn't close until the end of the month. Anyone else feel these frustrations ?

You joined HOL when we got promoted. You are now at our tenth transfer window in that time.

Do you remember Holloway getting players in in all positions? How did that work out for us?

Especially critical of SP.
We are about to embark on our record 5th season in the top flight.
Be positive.

Hi Al, hope you are good, sorry to disagree but fans do have the right to moan, after all they are the paying customers and they want the best for the team. You must agree that our investment in the team this transfer window has been rather poor compared to those teams around us who will also be fighting the relegation battle this coming season. Our defence is poor, the goalkeeper suspect and FdB wants a passing game out of defence using defenders that only know the big boot and hope clearance or are otherwise rather past their sell by date. I can understand that you are a glass half filled person and that has to be admired but being optimistic is not going to keep us out the relegation battle unless some quality players come in before the window closes. Hope I'm wrong but have a bad feeling about Saturday, we will probably have a lot of possession and attacking but in the end the defence or GK will make a mistake and we will lose 0-1!

343 looked iffy against Schalke, especially the right hand side when defending. We looked much better when Ward came on,that basically gave us a 433 set-up and gave Luka some much needed help.

I'm anxious, new system, clearly some large needs to the squad, but like a lot are saying, in SP we/I trust. To me he's barely put a foot wrong and think he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Whilst I'd love to see some more signings, equally I would rather see fewer, well thought out signings and some great loan deals than the board or manager just splashing the cash for sub-standard players like "Panicbiyi" or Adebayor.

Still a few weeks to go too, so fingers crossed they'll come up with some real gems, and personally whilst I fear the worst I really hope we get MS back. Not cheap, but I don't know what else you want to see from a player before you decide he's worth the money.

Benteke was worth the price tag, and so is Sakho.

This time around things SHOULD be different. Of course this is Palace and we like to not do what is predicted but allow me to explain.

Our team is much better this season than last season at the same time and that is before signing Loftus Cheek, Riedewald and soon to be Fosu-Mensah.

So that's a stronger team before those signings.

Next is the fixtures before the end of the window. We don't have a Tony Pulis team this time around. We have 2 home games against Huddersfield and Swansea and an away trip to Liverpool.

Our target should be 6 points. If we end up with 4 points we will be nowhere near bottom of the table and then the transfer window is closed.

You are correct we are slightly under prepared for the entire season but I don't think we are for those first 3 games. Those we should be able to get by in.

I fully believe that by the end of August we'll have a RWB and a backup Striker, probably even a starting Goalkeeper.

So all we realistically have to do is not Huddersfield win their first game ever in the Premier League. A really simple task...we'll muck it up.

Seriously though, 3 points on Saturday and we can coast the rest of August and concentrate on Transfer dealings. It's a massive opener for us.

I think we ought to get in a director of football or similar figure to assist with transfer dealings, but I don't think we're looking particularly unprepared this season. We do need a backup striker, but he'd only be a backup and so we can wait. Plus there's the little voice in my head saying that we've not yet got another CB because we're holding out for Sakho...

I am also suspect of 3-4-3 if I am being honest about what I feel...I love to be optimistic but right now until I see how we are going to play it a few more times I am slightly worried.

That is of course based on the current squad. Further additions may easily sway me the other way and I may end up more confident than ever. I do like FdB and I do believe he can get the best out of players. I am not certain where Fosu-Mensah will fit in but I do believe he is a good loan signing.

I would prefer we didn’t play Luka at CB.
I would like a top quality upgrade at right back.
I don’t want to see Kelly play for Palace ever again.

If these things happen then thumbs up from me.

A little harsh. Kelly was catastrophic as a left back under Pardew. He's a right footed center back that can cover RB if absolutely necessary but there's never been any hint he can play as left back. That's not his fault.

At RB again he's only a 4 or 5 out of 10. Not good enough.

As a center back though, particularly one that is covered by 2 other defenders in a back 3, he can definitely do a job. I think he was a solid 6 out of 10 more often than not in that position, occasionally a 7.

He's a competent backup CB is what I'm getting at, not a player I'd never want to see again like an Adebeyor or Jordan Mutch.
