He wants to start a movement that 1% of the entire football worlds money goes to charity. By starting with 1% it makes it a lot easier for players to get on board and if the end goal was successful it would be enormous. Besides you have no idea where the rest of his money goes.

He's on a ludicrous wage, but 1% of it is still a huge chunk of money and if others get on board it will make a real difference.

To an extent - Problem is that Charity is often itself rather questionable - with often less that 30% making its way to causes (and often charities set up by individuals and maintained with them can end up using the charity to employ people who provide services to the donating party such as legal services - whilst entitling them to a tax break on the capital sum).

Good for him. Are all footballers doing this? Doubt it, so whether it's 0.1%, 1% or 10% let's not berate a guy for donating some money to charity that he's not being forced to. As soon as I heard about Mata's 1% stance I just knew there would be some who would say that he could afford more.Fair play to Senor Mata !

Mata's donation will make a difference and if others join up an immense difference. Giving to others often in desperate positions is a duty in my experience and immensely rewarding. A football player costing 200 millions. It is a sick world indeed and what you can do may seem insignificant but a smile on a child's face will never leave you.

That's a valid point. I must admit I do try to give to charity or individuals as close to the source as possible so that I have some idea of knowing where the money is going. I'm not keen on giving to charity only for it to pay for a nationwide advertising campaign.
