And players who do don't get the protection they deserve from your friends in black. Strange isn'it it - supporters don't think about any "Protection" if their players are involved in tackles against skillful opposition players.

Needs protection, for me he is getting better and better and so pleased he is in Red & Blue. This season he is going to win us plenty of free kicks and I have no doubt FdB will be well on top of this opportunity. IMO he must be valued at over 50m and worth his weight in gold.

Completely irrelevant. The refs should protect him far more more than they do. Bad tackles flying in on him in friendlies is totally unaccetable and definietly not the norm for pre season games.

When I saw on teletext that Frank had commented on excessive defensive aggression - perhaps resulting in injury - against Wilfred, I recognised that we have a quality Manager - who has offered guidance to referees and opposition. Who knows, Mr Lineker may take note of Frank's comments. Certainly good to see so many Palace players getting minutes - can only encourage our young players, and players who might be offered a chance to further their careers with Palace. COYP

Hopefully with somebody of FdB pedigree saying these things in defence of Wilf then the referees association will sit up and listen. FdB seems to be building our team around his talent, quite right too. Parrot

Talking in general terms, players make it very difficult for referees with their 'Simulation'. If of course the same opposition player is involved he can get booked for persistent infringements and referees HAVE done so as part of what has become known as the "Totting up process". Not every tackle is worthy of a "Yellow" and if fouls are shared out amongst various players then persistent infringement by a single player doesn't enter the equation. I'm sure if our players meted out some heavy challenges on an opposition player who is a danger and no cards were issued then I suspect our supporters would not be too disappointed ! They might even pillory the player for going to ground too easily !

Which is why teams get around it by "fouling by committee". No concept of "team fouls" in football.....now wouldn't that be a thing?

WBA proved (again) they are a sh...t team and hopefully will be in the relegation trio all season long. For Wilf? Play like he did in Hong Kong without any (major) injuries, he'll be in the 150 - 175 mill. pound bracket next summer's transfer window.

The point is Thai eagle, Wilf will be tackled and badly next season. Its a cert and Palace and football will lose a George Best. No hopefully he won't get tackled too badly. What can Palace do to try to protect this talented man? Edited by adrian b (21 Aug 2017 9.28am)

It wouldn't happen so much if Clint Hill still played at LB for us We can only hope that the more publicity Wilf gets for the right things the more referees will look to protect him. He unfairly has a reputation for diving and I'm sure that influences the decisions of some refs.

Looking at it cynically, we need Zaha to be fouled as much as possible - why? This may be our only source of goals (from the resultant free kicks) - and those from Wilf himself. I cannot see goals from anywhere else. Benteke was hardly seen, Townsend ran a lot but ultimately lost the ball and wasted the one cross he did manage to get over. With the present set up we need to add a Gayle-type player who can run on to the through balls that will now be forthcoming from our new set up.
