Problem is, when you can be considered a celebrity for being on a TV show about people watching TV then pretty much everyone is a celebrity. So how do we classify celebrity deaths?

That said, I'd consider Bono to be a celebrity of sufficient magnitude if the Celebrity Reaper is listening. Cheers.

I would classify a celebrity as someone, I have at least heard of. These bit part actors and band members are not celebrities in my book.
My bet the next celebrity not to make it too 2018, will be Bruce Forsyth.

I saw him in Paris a few weeks ago and, to be horribly honest, it wouldnt totally surprise me. Not to say it wasn't a fantastic night but he was just a bit of a mess physically. His son on the drums is a star in the making though.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

I would suggest that a celebrity, at least requires a body of work, that spans at least two different genres or mediums.

Stephen Fry, is a genuine celebrity, having been both an actor, writer and a presenter successfully.

Its the difference between celebrity (as in celebrated) and being famous.

Anyone can be famous if they want to be. Not everyone can be a celebrity.

Bollocks Jamie. I am happy with Painter's definition. If he's heard of them then they count as a celeb in my book. I propose we pin this post so we know who to lament the loss of in future.

Ollie's Dad (Ash) seems quite a calm person without a dislike for anybody. So I'm surprised he's got Sting on his hit list.

I blame the Tories. Keeping celebrities at the expense of ordinary people.

Corbyn will have to promise a quota of dead celebs to nobodies in his next manifesto.

Oh the irony...

Actually, to test this out I am going to list some "celebs" and I want Jamie and Painter to both say yes or no to each one for whether or not they class them as a celeb. Saying "would" is not an option:

Kerry Katona
Mel B
Elton John
Brad Pitt
Gandhi
Charles Manson
Jim Davidson
James Dyson
Nick Park
Rosa Parks
Jorgie Porter
Jesus Christ

Yes = Celebrity No = Famous or Known

Urban definition of Celebrity
They are full of self-delusion, hypocrisy and attention seeking drug habits. They are spoiled drama queens and usually have absolutely no idea what they're talking about because they're under-educated. They drive cars that cost enough to feed a small country. They provide nothing practical to society and pack-rat millions of dollars all the while claiming to be enlightened humanitarians and giving away a few thousand dollars to charity which they could just as well wipe their ass with.
The least useful type of job there is available for anyone to do, they make money 10x the amount of money in a day any average person can make in his life and contribute nothing to humanity other than giving people entertainment that cost more than the minimum wage for one hour

There are some celebrities that are actually good like people who save someone or develop theroies, medicine and technology to help the rest of humanity
