Some things are about common decency, not being offended on others behalf. This is one of those times. It is simply not acceptable for a white person to use that word. End of.

This is a perfect opportunity for agenda outrage.

Frankly, I don't think I've ever heard this phrase in my life. People from my grandmothers generation used the N word casually but it is obviously a denigrating term and therefore very impolite and especially inappropriate for an MP to use in public. You do have to wonder.

I do think we need to get over reacting to words though. It is part of our evolution toward enlightenment.

Of course the word should not be used. It shouldn't be used by black people either. They of course use it to poke fun at white peoples' horror of the word. There are a whole list of things said that offend 'common decency' - remember when Thatcher died?

Says out little socialist predictably.

We need to move on from the past in more ways than one.

It's a word. A highly loaded word. Represents one of the lowest ebbs for humanity. Should only really be used in context for academic/historical and valid literary purposes. Though never quite understood why Tarantino used it so much in his films as it just seemed gratuitous.

She used a phrase. An outdated and offensive phrase but she didn't call someone the N word. She should be censured of course, but kicked out?

I don't see you being quite so vocal about Jackie Walker and her ilk.

How many people that the phrase is supposed to offend (can I call them 'black people?) have complained? Or is it just 'white people' that are voicing their outrage and why are they offended (the 'white people' that is.

It's all well and good having a particular political hue but if it results in you almost leaping to the defense of abhorrent nonsense like this then it's a sorry state of affairs. I'm not white, but I find it demeaning that you require someone who isn't white to pop up and say that they are offended by this crap for it to mean anything.

Oh do 'they'. Yes all black people are fine with it of course. No cries from you to 'ask black people' on this one of course. Hedgehog50 has the answer.

This one isn't complicated. What she said is unbecoming of an elected politician. I very much doubt it reflects those she claims to represent as it's not a common phrase that most people would just throw out there.

Are you offended when a black person uses 'the word' (is it ok to use the phrase 'the word' by the way as it is simply replacing the offensive word). Of course I used the pronoun 'they', would you rather I used 'we'? I agree that the figure of speech in question is not used these days and neither should it be, but it was in fairly common usage when I was a child - but I am quite old. Also your statement that I am 'leaping to the defence' of the use of the word, if you read my posts, it is clear that I am not.

She has had the whip removed ... that will in itself disappoint Boris. Reckon that you could be looking at a by-election soon given that her position is untenable given her suspension.

No. If it was a Labour politician, we'd shrug our shoulders, an enquiry would find it isn't racist, and we wouldn't hear a peep from the outrage agenda mob.

If it was Jezza's best mate, said outrage mob would be quieter than a Catholic orgasm.

Then said mob happily rally behind specimens like Abbott and Lammy when they spout their "divide and conquer" language.

But yeah, she's a Tory. Burn her.

She will of course be cast into oblivion for using the N word, probably meeting up with Ron Atkinson for a cuppa.

I have always found it strange that, as a public figure if you use the N word you will never be seen again, however if you are a public figure who takes drugs, act violently, hit your partner, commit fraud or adultery you will be accepted back into the public eye.

Anyway nothing can justify that word being used anymore so she is incredibly stupid.
