Exactly - we could end up spending a lot of money on someone who will be mostly keeping the bench warm (assuming that Benteke stays fit). I'd imagine that we will still be building our team around Benteke, so do we just buy a like-for-like backup in case he gets an injury or buy someone totally different? We have Connor Wickham as a like for like replacement but need a different kind of striker for those occasions when we need to change the style of play

This is why I don't think we need 4 strikers. Especially if we continue with a 1 striker formation. Whilst you are right Dan, they aren't often in the position that they have to claw themselves back into a game like we do and often they have other players who can comfortably switch to playing up front if they are. Son for Spurs, Sanchez and Walcott for Arsenal, Rooney for Man Utd. With Wickham's injury problems since he's been with us, I would much rather we had 4 forwards. At some stage Benteke will miss a few games, and it's sod's law that Wickham will be out at the same time. I don't want us having to stick Zaha up front as a stop gap.

Time for Anderson and Ladapo to stake their claim with FdB. Hopefully, Anderson will come good in pre-season. I think he has something to offer at a high level. If Wickham is not fully fit until Sept, then, what have we got to lose until the end of Aug? One of the above hopefully will break through. Trouble is that they are too old to be freebies for the squad. What we really need is for Lameka or Baptiste as they are under 21 and won't count in the 25. Parrot

We cannot rely on Wickham at the moment due to his recent injury record. Just say Benteke got injured in one of the early games and was out for a while, who on earth could we rely on to replace him if we never got someone in ? Also after August the 'Transfer Window' closes. We need another striker but if we go down the route of a single striker then we need to lure someone who is prepared to sit on the bench and this could severely limit our chances of getting a quality player in. Edited by Willo (03 Jul 2017 10.02am) I suspect we'd end up playing Wilf up top. Agree we need 4 strikers. Hope RVP will be one of them. Last year we were lucky but really need four before we start this season. 3 absolute minimum. Edited by Goldfiinger (03 Jul 2017 6.36pm)

I've changed my mind originally thought one striker would be sufficient but with wickham out to 2018. We at least need some senior options. I like lapado but really don't think he's up to it.

I would like us to get a striker as well but I feel if need be Zaha could slide into the striker role. I believe he plays the #9 role for Ivory Coast

Bummer! We really need 1-2 strikers before the transfer window shuts.

Who ever we sign upfront it will have to be someone who plays both on the wing and upfront because no one of the required quality is going to want to come to us and play backup to Benteke...if they can play across a front three then they are guaranteed more starts. Someone like Troy Deeney would be superb. Watford have quite a few forwards on their books right now.
