John was the first center half I came across when I started to go to Palace. I still have the programme from his testimonial game for the glaziers. My condolences to Johns family. RIP big John.

So sad,I remember John very well,a lynchpin of the 1968/69 promotion team, and one of my hero's when I were a lad.
I believe he cost £1,000 from the now defunct Scottish team Third Lanark, what an incredible piece of business by the astute Bert Head.
John was an excellent centre-half made of pure Scottish granite.
I have wonderful memories of John in the promotion season and the seasons he played for us in the old First Division. We always had a battle to stay up but having players like John always gave us a chance. They were the most enjoyable time of my days watching the Palace.
Farewell John ,and thanks for being part of my footballing life.

John was my very first Palace captain and certainly had a massive presence around the place felt even by this nipper just out of nappies.

RIP

Really sorry to hear about this. He was one of my first Palace defensive heroes with John Jackson, David Payne, John Sewell and Mel Blyth.
RIP and condolences to his family and friends. A man like him will have had many friends.

I remember that one of my early games that I went too on my own as a kid was his testimonial. Saw him play for Palace a handful of times and remember his scorcher against Sheffield united when we won 5-1. Great memories RiP

Thank you CPFC2010 for keeping me interested in football, for me no Palace no football either. Come on you Eagles.
