That is it really , all the money being quoted for Chambers / Smalling / makes Sakho look a bargain.
Forget about the sell on value B@llocks, we are looking at a guy that we have seen with our own eyes that could keep us for 2 - 3 season which makes any sell on value irrelevant .

Amen.

Oh and why is everyone assuming that Sakho will be fit only for the donkey sanctuary in that time? He'll still only be 30.

Sakho was no doubt incredible for us and would be chuffed if he came back but there is part of me that gets more excited about the prospect of signing chambers. He is still young and English, suits fdb's style of play and can be mounded, he's a mint player for England and will have a point to prove. I think we may regret not getting him, even if it is for just a few mil less than our hero of last season, sakho.

Can't believe the short sightedness. Turning our noses up at smalling he's played 153 premier league games at high level. He's better than all our defenders in my opinion.

Agreed.

I'm pretty sure that most of the posters on this forum that are all singing Sakho's praises are the same people that had reservations over us getting him last season.

Smalling/Chambers/Delph are all players who are a level up on our current ones, and are exactly the sort of players we should be targeting.

I wouldn't mind betting that you're not actually "pretty sure" at all but are making something up to suit your point of view

It's a fair point. Smalling for 10m does look like a bargain to me though. Weird that United are selling, suspicious like.

If Smalling is available for £10m it is a no brainer. 27 years old, former United captain & player's player of the year, 31 caps for England. Can only assume that is a figure the newspapers have plucked because it seems really low to me.

I'd love us to sign Sakho again but, to be honest, if it's a choice between just him or Smalling + £20million to spend on a goalkeeper or striker then we have to think about the overall strength of the team.
