Yep. This.

Yeah, I tend to agree. The difference between being a foaming moron spouting idiotic bile on his profile and actually making a concerted effort to insight hatred is perhaps a little bit of a grey area at times, but in this instance it's edged out of that grey area. All for freedom of speech when your audience is right, I always think that if you censor morons you deprive them of the rope they'll use to hang themselves, but I don't like hate preaching and it all needs to be stamped out.

It sets a good standard and I hope they'll be arresting everyone in this country that tries to insight violence and war.

Yep. This.

I'm sorry but this is a slippery slope.

Making bad taste remarks like that is poor judgement but if we get arrested for that then this country is in big trouble. The thought police are on their way.(if they can get funding)
I seem to remember people getting all sensitive about the grounds for arrest for would be Islamist terrorists a while back but when a genuine white van man runs off at the mouth we should lock him up forever?

Dianne Abbott will be pleased.

I am a great advocate of freedom of speech but not so much of moronic bad taste and this guys comments were in very bad taste - as well as making him look a complete and utter cxnt.

However no point wasting police/courts time on such a waster - police should give him a warning, and send him back to daddy.

Getting quite tired of all this one rule for us about freedom of speech and hate speech and another for everyone else.

When it comes to tiresome statements maybe you shouldn't undersell yourself in that department.

Also I have some sympathy for people fed up with the now mostly meaningless definition of being called British and prefer defining as English instead.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that at all.

My acceptance of the term British and Britain has been somewhat damaged by what I've seen around me in Wisbech and in my former home of London.

I have some sympathy for thought police concerns. However it's a thought involving wishing violence upon another group. How would we feel if this had been some Islamic person. I'd probably want some action.

I don't know what to do about it though.....Because I also feel uneasy with arresting someone over stupid comments.

I think its about the right level. I don't think it deserves any prison time, or much effort, but its timing and the relationship between the individual and the events are inflammatory and reasonably said to be 'incite'.

I believe the grounds for arrest are incitement. The grounds of arrest for terrorists by the way, is conspiracy to commit terrorism, which carries up to a 30 - Life sentence.

People need to understand their responsibility but we need to be careful. Our freedoms are at risk.
Let's be honest a lot of people would prefer it if no Muslims were living in Britain. I think you should be able to say that, but in the current environment, implying the desire for violence, even in jest, is at least, irresponsible.
The suspicion of course is that there is a political motivation to come down hard on anti Islamic rhetoric while being soft on Islamist sympathisers.

I'm sorry to sound like a broken record but none of this sensitivity was required before 'cultural enrichment'.

We aren't soft on them....we pay their legal aid but pah, apart from that we aren't soft on them.

Perhaps they've picked him up partly to see what he knows- after all, related to one of the owners of the company that rented the van used in a terrorist attack, then makes clearly abusive posts on FB- maybe they think he's part of it?

Police waste no time bashing in the doors of the friends and families of terrorist attackers normally, presume this to be the same sort of diligence.

Seconded.

I have no issue with immigration but I never 'needed it' for cultural purposes and I resent being told how I should feel about different cultures by the sanctimoniously self righteous.

When immigration happens at a rate that the country can't effectively absorb....then valid resentment and cohesion problems are caused to a significant percentage of the population.

It is certainly true that if there was no Islam here that we wouldn't have this problem and we wouldn't have to pick up body parts from soft target attacks.

However we are where we are and our war is only with those who mean us violence.....which is a small but growing number of the community.

The need for Islam to reform is highly important. That said mainstream Islam here with its highly socially conservative non integrationist ways is a separate, if related, part of the equation.

This doesn't refer to westernised Muslims who accept secularism and believe in integration.

Precisely. If this had been a comment from a family member after the London Bridge attacks there would have been absolute uproar

It's a fair point. It does highlight the dumbness of someone in that position posting something like that on a Facebook.
