These people come to the UK because their 2nd language is more likely to be English, they have relatives already there and/or the benefits system is far easier to enter than that of France or many other European countries. There are two border checks in Calais, one by the French immigration authorities and the other by their British equivalents. The UK leaving the EU will make zero difference to this, in fact it will encourage more to attempt to cross as after the UK leaves there will only be French immigration in Calais. The UK immigration checks will be moved to and only be made on entering the UK in Folkestone. Once in Folkestone, these people will remain in the UK as inevitably they won't carry any papers with them and so can't be 'returned' to their originating country as that will not be known. You've changed your tune. Normally you are telling us what a Utopia the other EU countries are, so superior to backward looking Britain, but now we are apparently very attractive to people - you can't have your croissant and eat it.
We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell] |

Show me where I have called the EU a 'Utopia' or are you falsifying what people have commented yet again to try and support your very flimsy opinions?

Er, no, That's how you would like to portray people with a different opinion to yourself. As for other EU countries, at least they have better and stricter social systems as proven by these people who are desperate to get to the UK. They would stay in France if they could or any other EU country but their systems don't allow that for the majority. In doing that, many European countries have health systems and infrastructure that the UK can only dream about. Go and speak to the hundreds of thousands of Brits in Spain and France and ask them about the health systems over there. I'm sure they will not want to return to the UK and have to use the NHS. Germany has a huge surplus of hospital beds and yet they make a huge trade surplus every year, can't be bad can it? Show me where I have called the EU a 'Utopia' or are you falsifying what people have commented yet again to try and support your very flimsy opinions? What is stopping them staying in the Utopian countries? Edited by hedgehog50 (21 Jun 2017 9.30am)

Someone had died and the far right on the HoL are using it for political point scoring. Isn't this exactly what they were accusing nickgusset of on other threads?
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

The EU and its freedom of movement and single currency has been great to europalace. Unfortunately for people banging their nut against a brick wall a few times a day, he doesn't appreciate that it may not work for plenty of others. Small businesses, low paid workers, tradesmen or certain trades, untrained young people vs experienced low cost foreign labour, and plenty more if we do t break the cycle of cheap imported labour at some point. Just let him have his rants.
