Given that the club have just given Zaha a new £110k per week contract, your hard-earned £100 would pay for 10 minutes of his time (not taking tax into account).

No way I would put my hard-earned salary straight into the pocket of a millionaire footballer who earns more in a week than I do in a year and find the idea pretty offensive.

If we were a non-league club and it was about pitching in to prop the club up for a short while then it's appropriate, otherwise not.

Which begs the question, if you had Zaha for ten minutes what would you make him do?

Definitely not make him go on soccer AM. I love the guy but in those situations, he's painful to watch.

I think purchasing a season ticket is crowd funding, maybe that's just me. ......

Quite - although now you might need to buy season tickets to stand outside the ground to make up some of those wages that Premiership players get.

Didn't we use to (meaning collectively on HOL) sponsor a player's shirt or something similar a few years back?

So for every 157 people who donated 100 we would get Zaha for a week, or 8164 people for him to play for a season (including pre-season etc). Excluding any bonuses ext (and administration costs).

Which is over half of our fans, who attend a home game (given half our games are home games) would need to pay 100 extra in order to pay for a 110k a week player.

And with all fairness to Zaha, he's not really a grandstand signing.

Can't see that catching on.

I think we did, but I think in this day and age, we'd struggle to raise the money to sponsor the shirt of the guy who irons the players shirts.

I've just sold my house and all its contents to help pay the wages. I love the club that much.
